Shoal is winmore —June 20, 2019

Disrupting Shoal is only good when our Ninja plan is working out, in which case we're already winning. Replaced with high-average-power cards like Thoughtseizes

This seems really good. I’m surprised no Spell Pierce in the main.

I love it! Faerie Miscreant + ninjutsu is amazing I never thought about it.

Hey heckproof, thanks for the suggestion and glad you like the deck! Spell Pierce is a good fit, but for several reasons, I don't think it quite makes the cut

  • Compared to draw-go Faeries, this version usually taps out turns 1 and 2, so we don't really like counterspells
  • We need a critical mass of 1-drop creatures and card draw to make the synergy work
  • Due to trimming answers, we can't afford to play less flexible answers. We already have 3 copies of Force of Negation , and a deck probably doesn't need 4+ Negate s.

That's why I think we'd want to play more Thoughtseize s, Snapcaster Mage s, and Disrupting Shoal s before going for narrower answers.

I was tinkering with U/B faerie/ninja deck awhile back, but felt like the cards just weren't there to really pull it off, but it appears modern horizons changes that dramatically with Changeling Outcast , Faerie Seer , and Ingenious Infiltrator . You have provided much inspiration. I'm personally not a fan of Disrupting Shoal since you have to match the mana cost with your discard, but I can see where it works in this deck, though I do think more Thoughtseize could do more leg work.

mfogle, I think you're right. Playtesting has gone a lot smoother since I swapped out the Shoal s (too cute) for more discard and removal. Actually I haven't dropped a match since!

I was worried that discard would slow our gameplan of drawing into a critical mass of answers, but it does usually seem to buy us more than a turn's worth of time.
