The new Emry, Lurker of the Loch inspired me to make an affinity deck for standard. She's a powerful card advantage engine in any artifact deck, and we'll still have
Steel Overseer
and
Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge
in standard by the time ELD comes out.
This one's more midrange than aggro. We have enough card advantage to play more than one card a turn in the mid to late game, and our creatures keep getting bigger thanks to
Steel Overseer
If we fail to kill the opponent with our creatures, we've got
Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge
to finish them off.
Steel Overseer
and the new
Corridor Monitor
have a fairly potent synergy. Drop
Corridor Monitor
, activate
Steel Overseer
while
Corridor Monitor
's ETB is still on the stack, and then use
Corridor Monitor
's ETB to untap
Steel Overseer
and activate it again. You've now added 2 +1/+1 counters to all your creatures (except Emry, but you don't want to be attacking with her anyways).
Chamber Sentry
is a decent source of removal that's also a creature. With
Steel Overseer
, we can keep using it over and over again, and also kill bigger things than we ordinarily could, having only two colors of mana.
The deck's vulnerable to boardwipes, and I think Esper Control is still going to be prominent post-rotation, hence the maindeck
Negate
s. May swap them for something else once I've had a chance to test.
With Emry,
Scrabbling Claws
becomes easily-recurrable card draw, as well as already being efficient graveyard hate. May drop the number to 2 or 3 in the future.
Arcanist's Owl
seems good, but I don't think we need any more card advantage than we already have.
Considering we've got the shocklands in standard, and like half our cards are colorless, it might be worth adding an additional color to the deck. Probably red or white.
