Kaito, Dancing Shadow

Legendary Planeswalker — Kaito

Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player, you may return one of them to its owner's hand. If you do, you may activate loyalty abilities of Kaito twice this turn rather than only once.

+1: Up to one target creature can't attack or block until your next turn.

0: Draw a card.

-2: Create a 2/2 colourless Drone artifact creature token with deathtouch and "When this creature leaves the battlefield, each opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life."

Some thoughts:

  • 22 lands feels a little low for a deck that is trying to juggle being both proactive and reactive. Personally i’d go to 23 - though i haven’t played the deck to know which number feels better.

  • Cunning Evasion feels really pointless to me, its going to mess with your own tempo heavily, for really limited gain. You’re better-off just kill-spelling a creature that’s blocking your stuff, or not worrying about it.

  • your creature count is too high, giving you too few means of interaction. I’d drop both Silver-Fur Master and Ornithopter (while also playing the full playset of Changeling Outcast, as it helps with your faerie count). That gives you 6 extra slots to control the boardstate.

  • Kaito, Dancing Shadow is probably a sideboard card at best. If a game goes long enough to get value from him, you’re in trouble. I’d leave him in the sideboard and just bring him in for super grindy matchups (or, ditch him entirely).

  • I agree the deck would perform a LOT better with Bitterblossom. Your best solution fir playing without it is to try and build the deck as aggressively as possible - you don’t want the game to go long because you’ll get out-valued.

KBK7101 on (Rule 0) Kaito/Wanderer partner deck?

Was showing a friend the Neon Dynasty anime trailer yesterday and got an idea for a deck. Basically, an blink/flicker deck featuring the planeswalkers Kaito and The Wanderer as partners. I was thinking about having the ONE versions of both of them as the commanders of this deck.

Kaito, Dancing Shadow and The Eternal Wanderer

Basically, my question with this thread is... if you sat down against a deck led by these two partner planeswalkers, what would you opinion be? I purposefully avoid infinite combos if that's a concern.

There is no decklist yet. Just the bare bones of an idea I was debating exploring.

My thoughts on this set:

Melira, the Living Cure should've been able to remove poison counters even if the ability was similar to Leeches.

All Will Be One and Soul-Scar Mage together just turned a lot of cheap cards pinging all creatures on the battlefield into board wipes. And if you happen to have Bonfire of the Damned to cast you could end up winning the game.

I know the stories explained it, but I would love to had seen cards explaining how Lukka and Nissa were compleated. Though compleating Nissa kinda irks me because the story she was in in The Brothers War implied she survived the war with New Phyrexia.

Nahiri, the Unforgiving and Bladegraft Aspirant could end up vital in Boros reconfigure decks.

I like Corrupted. A good way to take advantage of poison without directly using it to win. Vishgraz, the Doomhive is the poison Commander we deserve.

Only sacrifice to draw a card?? 5 of the Sphere lands feel underwheling compared to the rest.

If you are building a oil counter deck for an eternal format, make sure to add Nesting Grounds to the deck.

In Superfriends decks, Ichormoon Gauntlet and Kasmina, Enigma Sage together could result in multiple -12 activations in a turn.

With Vraska a primarily black Planeswalker and Tyvar also a Planeswalker, it fits that she got the monoblack card. Anyone else notice the similarities between the ultimates of Vraska, Betrayal's Sting and Vraska, Relic Seeker?

As happy as I am Terramorphic Expanse got reprinted into Standard, I think Evolving Wilds would've made for a more flavorful choice.

Thrun was declared the last Troll BEFORE the Phyrexians rose. So what's with Oil-Gorger Troll?

Kaito, Dancing Shadow should be a staple in Etrata, the Silencer decks.
