What happens if you flicker Saskia the Unyielding?

Asked by 2mysterious 8 years ago

My question: If you flicker Saskia, would the effect stack or would the first dissipate? This is crucial in how I build the deck, so any help would be appreciated! In other words, could you select a different or even the same player and deal double, triple, or even quadruple damage to that player? OR! (Even better) Could you cause an infinite loop of damage between two players via combat damage?! Probably not, but a not-blue mage can dream, can't he?

It will dissipate; when a card changes zones, it loses memory of its previous existence. If it reenters the battlefield, it will become a new object with no memory of its past existence.

The only I can think of right now of to stack the effect is to cast Mirror Gallery and copy Saskia.

Please remember to link your cards when you ask :)

Saskia the Unyielding creates an effect upon entering the battlefield targeting a player to receive damage whenever a creature deal combat damage to any other player. That said, this effect is connected to Saskia being on the field. So, consider if someone kills Saskia, this effect ends.

If you flicker Saskia, she will enter and be considered a different Saskia than the one you initially flickered out. She will have her trigger allowing you to select a new player, or the same one as before if you like, and will add that damage to the selected player, and the effect from the old Saskia will end. So the most you can do is double damage to a single player with Saskia alone.

That much said, if you're looking to further increase the damage dealt, red has a LOT of options for you. Dictate of the Twin Gods, Furnace of Rath, Anthem of Rakdos, Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, Gratuitous Violence are all options to help you really get that damage flowing.

wereotter is right on the money. Well, 99%, small quibble is that Saskia the Unyielding never targets. A couple notes on rules, synergies, and such. If you have 2 Saskia's choosing different players (via Mirror Gallery or Sakashima the Impostor both will trigger off combat damage, copying it for the named players. They will not trigger off eachother or otherwise create a loop, because they do not deal combat damage. If you use something like Furnace of Rath and have Saskia attack the chosen player, she'll deal 6 combat damage (because her 3 is doubled), then 12 noncombat damage off her triggered ability, making damage doublers stack very well.

Also note that her first ability is not triggered, it can not be responded to.
