Stratodon and Snow lands...
Asked by linkofhyrule 13 years ago
If I were to summon stratodon, and I have (at least one each) a Mountain , Plains , Swamp , Forest , Island , and Snow-Covered Mountain , Snow-Covered Plains , Snow-Covered Swamp , Snow-Covered Forest , Snow-Covered Island ; is stratodon's casting cost 5 mana, or 0 mana? Do the snow lands count as a different kind of basic land?

Nope, the 'basic land types' are only as you listed: Mountain, Plains, Swamp, Forest, Island.
Snow is a Supertype like Legendary or Basic. The basic land types are actually Subtypes, like the creatures types (Goblin, Zombie, Elf, etc...) It isn't based on the name of the card, but the subtype of the land.So until they come up with yellow or purple land, the most you can reduce his ability is 5, along with any other Domain card.

Here, this is a ruling on Stratadon itself.
2/1/2009 To determine the number of basic land types among lands you control, look at the lands you have on the battlefield and ask yourself whether the subtypes Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest appear within that group. The number of times you say yes (topping out at five) tells you how powerful your domain abilities will be.
(I don't know why but I find the tone of that ruling pretty funny. :-D)

OK, thanks. I was leaning towards 5, not 0, just needed confirmation. As i looked @ the snow lands after posting the question(rolling over the handy links :) ), I saw indeed that it was still just the basic 5 on the right side of the card typing dash: Basic Snow Land - X
