Isochron Scepter and Panharmonicon Storm

Asked by CMGraves 6 years ago

Let say I have Panharmonicon and Sol Ring on the field and I cast Isochron Scepter. From what I understand, I can exile two instants/sorceries from my hand and use the scepter to cast one or both. Now let's say I have a Storm card like Brain Freeze exiled under the Scepter as well as an untapper say Hidden Strings. Could I use the Scepter to mill an opponent for 3 with Brain Freeze, then untap itself with Hidden Strings in addition to untapping Sol Ring?

Now if this is the case then I could repeatedly use the Sol Ring and Isochron Scepter to repeat the process over and over each time the Brain Freeze being copied over and over through the storm?

Yes, so long as your opponent doesn't disrupt the combo somehow, Hidden Strings can untap both Isochron Scepter and Sol Ring, enabling you to activate the scepter again.

This goes infinite with far more than just Brain Freeze too, really any 2cmc or lower instant that in some way progresses your victory could be used this way. Lightning Bolt, Giant Growth targeting an unblocked attacker, etc.

Thanks Tyrant-Thanatos. I'm working on a Jank Esper deck and am going through all my 2 or less cards looking for shenanigans but wanted to confirm this was viable. I need to find more untappers to give me more options and some way of protecting the Scepter.

Hidden Strings cannot be exiled by Isochron Scepter, but you could use Dramatic Reversal instead.

Ah yep. That's a detail I missed, the Scepter can only exile instants not sorceries. So Hidden Strings doesn't work with it, but as Neotrup pointed out, there's alternatives for that. Heck Dramatic Reversal would be far superior in this combo anyhow.
