Do Lands like Jungle Hollow count for Nightmare / Squelching Leeches?
Asked by NauFirefox 10 years ago
So I'm a bit new to the Magic community, but I got a Sultai deck going and thought "Hey, I have a bunch of multi lands like Jungle Hollow and Opulent Palace, I wonder if these would add on to my Squelching Leeches or Nightmare?"
Turns out as I've looked around, I can't find a straight answer, some people believe no, as the cards don't say Swamp, some people say yes, because the Land has a Subtype of Swamp, and the ruling states subtypes count...
So specifically what I'm looking to know is; Does Jungle Hollow, Dismal Backwater, and other duel land cards count for Squelching Leeches, and Nightmare's effect.
Also, does Opulent Palace count, as a tri-land, with swamp as a subtype?

Squelching Leechess power and toughness will change as the number of Swamps you control changes. Its ability counts all lands you control with the subtype Swamp, not just those named Swamp.

Squelching Leeches, Swamp, Opulent Palace.
There should be a tutorial on how to link cards available for your viewing before you posted. Use double square brackets - [ [ swamp ] ] without spaces becomes Swamp.
The answer to your question is no. These lands do not have the type Swamp and are not considered swamps and will not add to the P/T of leeches.
However, I urge you to add Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth to your list to make all your lands Swamps in addition to other types. Then all the lands will be Swamps and will add to the P/T of leeches.

Swamps are lands with the subtype Swamp.
Lands like Opulent Palace and Jungle Hollow do NOT have the subtype Swamp, even though they can tap to add black mana to your mana pool. Lands not -named- Swamp that have the TYPE "Swamp" include Bayou and Watery Grave.
No word "swamp" in the type line? It's not a swamp.
