Changelings and subtypes
Asked by Shyachi33 13 years ago
so creatures with the "changeling" static ability (IE Chameleon Colossus ) states they have all creature types, now is creature types limited to actually types of creatures that was printed, and can not be for example non-creature subtypes like "locus" for the locus lands (IE Cloudpost ) or even "shrines" from the honden sets?
and if not, cause i'm sure you can't, just making sure, is there any cards that CAN copy those subtypes of non-creature types?

205.3m Creatures and tribals share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are called creature types. Creature types are specifically-defined and belong to the above list. They are subtypes which describe creatures and tribal spells alone. They do not include subtypes of any other type of card.
As for copying permanent types, most effects I am aware of only add or subtract types and subtypes to existing cards.

Vesuva can copy your Cloudpost and it would then be a locus, since it's an exact copy of Cloudpost :D

Oh, and Epochalyptik, you are referring to rule 204.3k, not 205.3m. Unless we have different rulebooks, and if so, is yours more complete? I would like a pdf of it if it is :)

The most up-to-date version of the rules can always be found here. Epochalyptik is reading from the most recent revision.

Ah, as I suspected, the rulebook I have is slightly older. Thank you Rhadamanthus for the pdf!

Just wondering, would a creature with changeling gain the subtype locus if you managed to turn your Cloudpost into a creature? (via Liege of the Tangle , for instance)

"Locus" is a land subtype, not a creature subtype, and the changeling ability only gives creature subtypes.

can't make copy of the honden shrines cause they're legendary enchantments, unless you use the one card that ignores the legendary rule, i forgot what the card is.

there you go, that's too combo heavy for EDH imo though :/was trying to get a better result form the shrines, but to no avail :(

Well just as you said, a changeling can't become a subtype that's not a creature type.Locus og Shrine is a different permanent type than creature and will not be included into a Changeling's types.
For the other matter, i don't know of a card that can copy a permanent type (other than creature) - but if you aren't copying Hondens you can allways use Liquimetal Coating to turn it into an artifact and then use Memnarch , Copy Artifact , Sculpting Steel etc. to make copies ...
