Arbiter of the Ideal
Asked by Basain 11 years ago
I am thinking about running 4 of these in my UG deck and I had a couple of questions on how they work (sorry if they are lame, I am new to the game). I am mainly looking for confirmation because I think I know the answer to most of these but I am not 100% sure.
1) First off, if I reveal a Progenitor Mimic, can I copy any creature on the board as usual or does it resolve as a 0/0 creature with a manifestation counter on it? If I can play it as normal, will the Progenitor Mimic lose the manifestation counter since it becomes an exact copy of the creature it copies?
2) I think I know the answer to this one, but if Arbiter reveals a Mistcutter Hydra, I can still pay X to put X+1/+1 counters on it correct?
3) Can the creatures I play from being revealed by Arbiter be countered?
4) Again, I think I know the answer to this one, but say I have 2 Arbiters untap at once, do I reveal the top 2 cards or is it still just the first card?
5) Has nothing to do with Arbiter, but when I play a Sylvan Primordal and I search for a forest, can that forsest be a dual land like a Breeding Pool, Simic Guildgate, or a Temple of Mystery, or does it have to be the basic Forest?
Again, I am new to magic and these are probably some pretty lame questions but I was unsure on how these situations would work out and had no where else to go, so thanks in advance for your feedback and help.
Please link your cards. Use double brackets. [ [ Forest ] ], without spaces, becomes Forest . (Also, tone's kinda hard to convey over internets, but please know that what might seem cold and calculated "you should know this" answers are actually me just trying to help.)
Arbiter of the Ideal , Progenitor Mimic , Mistcutter Hydra , Sylvan Primordial , Breeding Pool , Simic Guildgate , Temple of Mystery .
- If any sort of clone (Clone , Progenitor Mimic , etc) enters the battlefield, you can have it enter as a copy of a thing, regardless of how it entered (The wording "You may have cardname enter the battlefield as" is the relevant bit). You can have it enter as a 0/0, or as whatever creature you want, but either way it'll get a counter from the Sphinx.
- You may not pay X for the Hydra. X in mana costs is set as 0 any time you're not actually casting the spell. Since you're just putting the Hydra onto the battlefield, you can't pay X, and it'll enter as a 0/0.
- Not by a counterspell. There are two or three spells that counter triggered abilities, but you can't use a Cancel to stop the ability from putting a permanent onto the battlefield.
- You reveal the top card, two separate times. The triggers go on the stack in either order you want. The first one resolves, you reveal the top card and see if you want to stick it on the battlefield. If you do, the next trigger will reveal the next card, and you can put that one on the battlefield too. If you don't, you'll just reveal the same card again.
- A "Forest card" is a card with the subtype Forest. Forest is good, Breeding Pool is good, Dryad Arbor is good. Simic Guildgate and Temple of Mystery , although they tap for green mana, are not Forests, so they can't be searched by Sylvan's trigger.

Thank you both for the answers, and my apologies for not linking the cards, first time posting on the Q&A and I will remember that in the future. Thanks again!

No. It comes into play. X is in the casting cost but you didn't cast it. So X doesn't inteeract.
No "countered" means counter target spell. So it will only counter if it was cast.
You reveal the first one and you choose either play or put it back. Then you do it again. They trigger separately.
You can search for anything with the type "Forest" so you can search for Breeding Pool Dryad Arbor and a forest. But that's it.
