(3 part question) does/would Illusionist's Bracers "activate''........... Sliver
Asked by ginko2580 11 years ago
I tap, (equipped) Thorncaster Sliver to attack, does THAT sliver deal 2 damage?
Say I (equip) it to Manaweft Sliver ? .... That sliver produces 2 of any color mana?
Illusionist's Bracers "if it isn't a mana ability'' targets someone like Dragon Hatchling doesn't it?
bonus questions: (score a happy face sticker for yourself if u answer these also) Fungus Sliver , Harmonic Sliver , Opaline Sliver , Magma Sliver
any others i havent seen or looked at??? (happy face sticker x2)

Illusionist's Bracers 's ability triggers only when you activate an ability. Only activated abilities can be activated. Triggered abilities are triggered, and therefore they cannot be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
An activated ability is always written in the form [cost]: [effect]." The colon is the signature punctuation mark of an activated ability.
A triggered ability begins with at, when, or whenever.
Also, a mana ability is an ability that doesn't target, isn't a loyalty ability, and adds mana to a player's mana pool. It is NOT an ability that costs mana to activate.
- Thorncaster Sliver doesn't have an activated ability. It has a triggered ability. That ability **can't** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
- Manaweft Sliver has an activated ability, but it's a mana ability. That ability **can't** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
- Dragon Hatchling has a static ability and an activated ability. The activated ability **can** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
- Fungus Sliver has a triggered ability. That ability **can't** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
- Harmonic Sliver has a triggered ability. That ability **can't** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
- Opaline Sliver has a triggered ability. That ability **can't** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .
- Magma Sliver has an activated ability. That ability **can** be copied with Illusionist's Bracers .

This is a list of all the Slivers with activated abilities. Disregard the mana abilities (Gemhide Sliver , Manaweft Sliver , Basal Sliver ) and you have every Sliver that works with Illusionist's Bracers .

Illusionist's Bracers can't copy an ability that produces mana. It also doesn't copy triggered abilities such as Thorncaster Sliver or Fungus Sliver . The bracers will only copy abilities with an activation cost such as Magma Sliver . For reference: activated abilities have a colon and an activation cost (tapping, paying mana, sacrificing a creature, etc.). Triggered abilities say the words "when", "whenever", or "at." Mana abilities are any abilities that directly produce mana. Llanowar Elves has a mana ability, but Arbor Elf 's ability isn't a mana ability. I know it's a lot to understand but hopefully this provides some clarity. These rules kinda get drilled into your head after you play MtG for awhile.
