What's your favorite color in MtG?

General forum

Posted on June 14, 2016, 2:45 p.m. by Dredge4life

As the title would suggest, I'm curious what color of MtG the people of Tappedout tend to lean towards. I'd like to know everyone's favorite color or colors (please, no more than two), either for playstyle, philosophy, or another reason. Please, if you have a second, post it in this thread. You aren't obligated to give an explanation, but if you'd like to I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

First, are we allowed to do combinations of colors? Because I would say that I am , and that those are my favorite colors.

Blue, due to the following reasons:

  • I get enjoyment out of learning, and frequently spend downtime doing something academic from my own ideas/questions.
  • I rarely like physical response to anything.
  • I like extra turns, Show and Tell, combos, and tutors.
  • The only thing unaffected by Counterspell is uncounterable spells and lands, and blue is the only color to be able to have lots of answers to nonpermanents.
  • Drawing cards is bae.
  • Logical arguments are the best type of discussions to me.
  • I am using a billeted list to explain why blue is my favorite color.

Additionally, I think it's interesting to ask what ones least favorite is as well, so my least favorite is green.

My favourite colour is monogreen for the following reasons:

Play style - stompy stompy smash

Philosophy - be bigger than them, for maximum stompy smash.

Further reasons (more seriously this time) - I prefer to be the more proactive player when playing (although not aggro) as it makes it easier to take freebie games against reactive decks. Beyond that, I'm just a big fan of having the biggest creatures on the field, as it means that my opponent is constantly trying to catch up. Beyond that, I just enjoy making control players suffer, which I consider to be a fair punishment for taking so many people to time.

In terms of Playstyle, I am . I love grinding people out and just generally being ahead of my opponent the whole game.

Philosophy, I would say that I am . I live for other people, always putting others before myself. I am a complete pacifist, but am also a rather large dude and find myself being unintentionally intimidating at times (So if I were a creature card, i'd probably be like a 3/5 defender or something). In all my actions I think of the good of the whole, though often out of instinct and without planning. At times I have spurts of Red as I act out of emotion and spontaneity, but the thought behind those actions can almost always be aligned to white.

Definitely Green as a mono color for playstyle. However I prefer the art on Black cards as I am a huge horror movie fan. so dual color would be Black and Green

I like blue for counter-spells.

I like white for protection.

There are several other things that I like or dislike but color identity seems less cut and dry.

One color? Black.

Two colors? Black/white.

Personality-wise, I'm this odd mix between Izzet and Dimir. I'm an artist, so I want people to look at stuff I make and be amazed by it, which is totally a thing, but at the same time I hate drawing attention to myself, which is more like .

Also, fuck green.

Three colors: Red/Green/Black

June 14, 2016 5:40 p.m.

Philosophically, I identify with red. I'm very passionate, impulsive and loud. If I can't think things out, I enjoy going with my gut feeling, even though it might not be right.

I also identify with blue because I enjoy thinking things out and anticipating them in advance. My outlook of life is partially due to Magic. I try to think of possibilities in advance, do the correct thing and make rational decisions bases on multiple factors. Although, somtimes, I don't, and that's why I also strongly identify with red.

The other colors I can identify with, but not anywhere close to the extent of red and blue

As for gameplay, I enjoy blue because I like that it provides more options, allows me to play creatures that are hard to interact with (flying, hexproof) and enables combos very well, which is my favorite part of magic. Combos not only show off cool interactions, but allow me to try to use intuition to find the best time or rationalize what could happen if the opponent has a certain set of cards. That's kind of the reason why I gravitated to infect as my deck of choice.

Also, if u quote me on this on your paper just call me Axel. Swaggy sounds like a really uncreditable source.

Black and any combination with it.

Im not entirely sure of all reasons for why im drawn to the colour, but Ill list some reasons for why I think I connect to it.

Black is selfish, and I acknowledge my own selfishness though I do not always agree with it nor express it.

Power. Power which leads to control, to be able to destroy or take what you want. This doesnt describe me or my nature (I disagree with control yet understand it), but it is a part of black that draws me to it.

Plus I like how black uses itself as it's own means to overcome others (sacrifice and loss of life).

Green would be my second choice because of it's nature for growth.

White annoys me but I understand why it is important.

The other two I dont mind but they have the least connection to me, personality wise (I really dislike the colour combination UR for some reason).

is my all time favorite mtg color. It is about far reaching power even at its user's own expense. Being able to go into opponenet's hands and force them to discard is just nasty. Direct creature destruction and having the option of drawing obscene amounts of cards is how I play. I love the principle of sacrificing something I have (creatures, life, etc.) to get ahead. Many times I'll do more damage to myself in games than my opponents have done to me.

would be my second because Counterspelling things and drawing even more cards is wonderful. It will never be my favorite because interacting with an opponent's board is just more fun then just not letting them play their cards.

(and not just because green is my favorite color in real life!)

When I got back into the game after a 10-15 year hiatus, I was teaching a lot of younger kids how to play. Mono is by far the easiest strategy to learn from. Ramp; which teaches them the importance of lands and mana, and creatures; to learn about combat phases and phases in general. I think is the hardest to learn, where paying life and sac'ing creatures is a tough concept for new players.

My second favorite mtg color is because drawing cards

My favorite color is .My favorite color pair is .

If playing 1 color, I want to be able to play the biggest creatures and trample over the competition.

If playing 2 colors, I like the choice of creatures in green and white's ability to answer anything.

June 14, 2016 7:35 p.m.

My favorite color from the game's perspective is black, both for its cutthroat philosophy that aligns with my pessimistic/realistic personality, and for its complex playstyle that teaches that everything in the game can and should be used as a resource.

My color that I align most with is blue because of its intellectual values and that it aims to solve problems in unique ways that the other colors might not think of.

I'm a (/) mage. Why?

Because your opponent can't kill you... If they're dead.

I mean, I'm mardu at heart, and I like red more than white, but the combination of black and white looks so elegant to me, and the philosophy of Orzhov is intriguing to me.

Overall, my favourite is black, with red and white being my secondaries.

Least favourite is green because it is a lame colour to me.

Everyone else is explaining lol. So here is my explanation.

I tend to be smart, as I get good grades and all of that stuff with advanced classes. That is the . I also am a bit impulsive, which is . But combined, you also get the part of me that likes to do experiments and the part that makes me inclined towards Math and Science, and these correspond to the Izzet. Probably if I was 3 colors I would be , as I prefer order rather than chaos, but I still am a bit impulsive.

Also my first deck was . I started paper magic around Origins, and I saw the thopters. And I said: "Dang, steampunk enginnered token-spam? I'm in!" So I built a thopter deck.

Also, look at the colors in general. I use red spells to burn creatures and players to my liking, and if they play a spell I do not like, counter it.

I love to play red. When I first started playing magic I bought the 2010 or 2011 deck builders tool kit and red just seemed like the most effective color by having cards that doubled as removal and direct damage

Green. You get to do all the biggest things Magic has to offer at a speed no other color can keep up with. Also, Green is known for never-ending value (Primeval Bounty, Thragtusk, Zendikar Resurgent).

wasianpower says... #31

White. Fast, efficient creatures, removal, the best hate cards, what's not to love? If I were to pick a color combo I would be GW because white does lack some card advantage and good value plays, so they pair nicely together. Plus, the best enchantment synergies in the game.

golgarigirl you clearly forgot about Crow Tribal! With Storm Crow as one of the only cards, it is still too overpowered to be used competitively.

Black is my favorite color. It allows me to use my graveyard and life as a resource and allows scheming in a similar manner to blue. After that would be red. Cut throat and impulsive is a very fun way to play, and it gives a unique challenge in EDH considering the card disadvantage inherent to red.

Like , I seek out knowledge and like to understand the way things work. Counterspells and evasion for the win!

CharonSquared says... #38

Blue, because I like card draw so that I have more options. I feel like the least interesting games of Magic are where you only have a couple cards in hand so your decision tree is limited to playing creature A or creature B.

June 15, 2016 12:59 a.m.

Lightpulsar9 says... #39

is my favorite color in magic, while , is my favorite color combination. I play mainly EDH, so I'm able to ramp up and play huge things. Ramping is my favorite thing to do in magic, since it allows me to do anything else I'd like to do with no restriction. I think offers great things that green can't cover, such as unrestricted tutors, and ways to get rid of annoying creatures, and boardwipes. Black is also the second best color at ramping so there's that as well. Also, graveyard shenanigans are fantastic.

I wouldn't say that there is a huge philosophical reason I enjoy playing . I Just enjoy showing what my deck can do at a faster pace than others.

My least favorite would be . I just don't think it's very fun. Generally, it's a reactive color, and makes the table target you even if you're doing nothing. It's kinda boring honestly.

The most accurate way to describe me is with temur colors in that order.

I'm an amateur artist, an enthusiast in writing and well, a person who likes using those to express my feelings in the most honest way possible. I'm emotional and impulsive, so that makes me red. Red is destructive, but also write with emotion, so there's a sort of beauty within the annihilation that red is capable of.

The green stems from my love for nature, and the green color itself. Big creatures and land everywhere is what I enjoy playing. Land is eternal and unforgiving, and my art likes to reflect that concept of tooth-and-nail brutality that green offers.

Blue balences those out with my love for science and learning, which makes blue a good support color, I would say. Nothing beats an intelligently timed response, and the cleverness of a jank combo which are everywhere in blue decks. It's protection and control are irreplaceable, yet it offers a different way to play the game for me.

Thats pretty much it xD

I like counter-spells and protection because they are fast, interactive at the player poker face level instead of the card-on-card level, and versatile having a wide array of strategic uses and choices.

I resonate with / most being organized, clean, outwardly peaceful, and law-abiding (according to official rules and rulers only - unofficial rules and gatekeepers can go fly a kite while I go get a book to throw at them). I also teach math. I also like crafting (and if I could, imbuing).

The secondary mode would be chaosy extreme budget counter burn loving /, when I can find a loophole for getting away with it. I also associate this with artisticly abstracting sublimation and research, two things that I am highly invested in.

Part of me is trying to be / but I have my reasons holding me back () so I also don't quite make that monkish Jeskai cut.

I am very abstract, cryptic, and friendly with birds - empathic, religious, and fond of cute animals - too direct and tending to be quick .
