Post Rotation Speculation

General forum

Before I begin I would like to say that I am fully aware that there are two whole sets to be released before rotation. That being said this thread is for speculation on what you see in the standard meta after rotation based on what is in the standard meta driving seat now and what we know will be leaving.

I believe that just about any token creating card is going to go through the roof in pricing due to the fact that Ratchet Bomb will no longer be around. Earlier last month I tried running a U/W Miracles deck with Entreat the Angels and the decks only problem was that EVERYONE was running at least 1 ratchet bomb post sideboard against me. An army of 4/4 angels pales in comparison to a single 2 cost bomb. That being said, i think Entreat the Angels will cost in excess of 30 dollars post rotation. Hell, it's already at 25.

Granted what I'm saying may be completely wrong and I may just in fact be a dimwit who knows nothing about magic, I would love to hear what you guys believe is coming to us in the next couple of months!

I must agree with you vila_a23 as I can also see tokens and other mass creature strategies getting a big boost. It seems sweepers are becoming more of a rarity and removal on the whole seems alot slower.I must add that I believe there's a good chance of black control showing up if the reprint of Duress is a sign of what's to come, even if it's not mono-black control (UB or WB maybe?).

It's extremely difficult to speculate this far in advance. There will be plenty of changes in the meta but right now we only know half of M13 and RTR has yet to be spoiled. We only know for sure what won't be around because a defined group of sets is rotating out. Trying to estimate prices will be especially difficult since those are dependent on the changes in the meta and even more fickle.

I think ithey wont let tokens rampage about, im pretty sure of it.. if theirs one thing i learned is that wizards love printing hosers,,, they just really do.

Doesn't Ratchet Bomb also destroy flipped cards like card:Ludevic's Abomination?

Yes, flipped cards have a converted mana cost of 0. But i think RTR might have something like Ratchet Bomb in it, because they have already spoiled that they will be keeping the graveyard hate going into M13. I don't think wizards will ignore the entire last set they made and the fac that is has few answers to itself coming post rotation.

Maybe they will print a 1 - 3 cmc destroy all non land permanents with CMC of 0 or something similar. I'm sure they will keep flip and tokens in check so they don't have to ban Lingering Souls and Intangible Virtue in standard.

well Lingering Souls was banned in block constructed and there is no answer for token producers in the isd block. So I would assume that if there is no answer to tokens in rtr then there may be some serious bannings going on with token producers. I honestly do hope they print some kind of token hate but I hope that it just isn't completely op against tokens like Ratchet Bomb is. And by op i am talking more towards the Entreat the Angels card. Let me give you a scenario.

Me: I play Entreat the Angels for all the angels i can make.

Opponent: Oh, you loaded your field with 7 4/4 flying creatures? Well here let me just play that Ratchet Bomb i have been holding off for so long and just clear the field. And then I will play some other stupidly powerful card because I only had to tap 2 mana to kill all your angels.

Me: WHAT THE HELL!!!! flips table rage quits

"Me: WHAT THE HELL!!!! flips table rage quits"

@vila_a23: I do this on a regular basis when facing standard decks :P

@umbro: I tend to do it alot after playing a modern tournament and being beaten by turn 2 and turn 3 combos every match lol.

It's not just Ratchet Bomb . Black is losing all of its board sweepers and red is losing all of its good ones.

Black still has killing wave laughs like an idiot. But in all honesty the only board sweeper black had was BSZ, which was pretty amazing, but come on, there are still plenty of sweepers to have fun with even if they arent black. White has Terminus , and hopefully Day. Blue has Devastation Tide , Black has Killing Wave , and I think you are forgeting that red still has Bonfire of the Damned post rotation.

Damnation at one time was a Standard black sweeper.

Killing Wave is not a sweeper when you need it to be. It's a burn spell.

June 14, 2012 11:08 p.m.

@vila_a23: I do it everytime I lose on the sole reason I get MANA SCREWED! >.<

Its standard so if you can say "I want that card" its going to be 10$ to 15$.If you look at a card and say "I need that" its going to be 20$ to 35$

Everything else falls in the 5-10$ range cause there nice but you know there going to be the easyest to attain.

I am going to wait till RTR before I buy anything cause then prices will drop slightly and I will just need to buy the specific rares I need to make whatever deck Iam playing super bombdiggity.

Personally I am looking forward to a new format, I have extended ug infect and I am working on modern burn. I may do legacy affinity but IDK.

yes there non rotational formats and as such the prices for the cards are worth it, I don't want to spend 200$ - 300$ plus every 8 months cause thats bullshit.
