Sorin, Solemn Visitor
is spiking as we speak. Up $10 from its low on TCGPlayer.com. Appears to be a buyout underway as I checked 3 hours ago and he was available for $16.
Just a heads up for those interested in acquiring him.
DrFunk27 - He's going to see plenty of play, he's the best PW in Khans of Tarkir.
Yes, I SAID IT! Sorin is better than Sarkhan. Not that Sarkhan isn't bad, but Sorin is better.

So because he's the best PW in the first set of a new block means you jam it in a deck? It's not a competive card. Ashiok is waaaaay better and it's barely $10. The amount of Khans that will opened will drastically decrease it's price.

How is Sorin NOT competitive? He makes a 2/2 Flier, he comes in at 4 mana, he helps you win races via lifelink, and his ultimate just wrecks some decks. I fail to see how he ISN'T a competitive card. Care to enlighten me?

I think he will see plenty of play. He is strong, but not overpowered. He has a higher loyalty than lord of innistrad, and I think he will fit best in a midrange deck. He may also see play as the top end of agro decks in the sideboard if not the main

I feel like he plays a very similar role when compared side by side with Sorin, Lord of Innistrad , and he never saw any competitive play. With the slower format that may change, but he's not on my watch list yet.

Sorin, Solemn Visitor fits into the same deck as Elspeth, Sun's Champion . The main thing is there's no four-mana Wrath of God to fight with him over this slot anymore. The real things he's contending with are Polukranos, World Eater and a few of the other B/W/x cards, which isn't many.
I'm in agreement with JWiley129. Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker is good, but he's fighting with Stormbreath Dragon for the 5-drop slot and doesn't have flying to push damage through. In a control shell, he shares a crucial slot with End Hostilities , which may very well be a four-of in those lists. Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker will most likely take the spot of Vraska the Unseen in Jund Superfriends, which didn't lose much from RtR rotating.

Sorin, Solemn Visitor is being evaluated incorrectly here. His +1 is very hard to race and can completely swing games. I was Rabbling against a Abzan deck that had a 3/3 and 4/4 Genesis Hydra . The 4 hit a Sorin with him at 1 life. I could not race 9 lifegain a turn. He was able to attack with one to gain life and the other to make any attack foolish because of the effect lasting until his next turn. I could not sit back and avoid combat to find burn or use my superior numbers to get around him. The -2 is okay pressure against an open board and can chump problem flyers late. Might snipe a planeswalker here or there. He can ultimate quickly and publishes opposing midrange decks. Free edicts to go along with your awesome removal? Please and thank you. With Ajani Steadfast he can do it the second turn you played him and these 2 work well together in B/W Aggro/Midrange.
Sarkhan is great as well, he wins games fast. Adept at killing planeswalkers. Working with Stormbreath Dragon they can create virtual card advantage late in the game. Can get 2 for 1's and his ultimate is nuts.

Sorin is for real. He's got a lot going for him. 4 mana, 4 starting loyalty, and a very strong +1. I doubt he stays at $25, but he's not going back down to $9-10 for a while.

Sorin is good, you are just incorrect if you don't get it, im sorry. Don't want erk anyone, but you just might not be his value I the current standard, with everything else weve got. He may even make his was into modern junk to replace Sorin, Lord of Innistrad .

people are overlooking the 'lifelink until next turn'. Pretty sure this sorin could go well up over 30 very very quickly once more people realize how strong he is. Great card.

8vomit - sorin LOI makes tokens as a plus ability, instead of a minus ability. He also creates a buff that lasts for the entire game. I still think he's better. He's just a lot more robust. Able to come down and provide a blocker to defend himself forever.

new sorin is being horribly misevaluated.
there are 3 spells that create 3 tokens in a turn, not counting elspeth. that combination with sorin / purphoros make dega a very legitimate contender. but everyone is so focused on mono G and G/x
September 25, 2014 2:53 p.m.
xzavierx Not a fan of the Mardu nomenclature, eh? Agree with your premise! I've wanted Purphoros to be viable for a long time.

i agree, theres nothing great about him... anyone who pays 30$ for this card is definitely up for some disappointment down the road when it drops to 5... Look at cards like snapcaster- yeah.. thats 30$ worth

The only contention I have is with the idea that this Standard is going to be slower. Mono black aggro looks scary without Abrupt Decay to oppose it.

Definitely not worth $30 long term but in the short it seems to fit in well right now in the two new popular archetypes. Huge demand. Like ChiefBell said the other Sorin seems better long term.

Not gonna see that much play. It'll be $9
