Attempt 1: Pioneer Cheerios (turn 4 win)

My first attempt at making a pioneer Cheerios style deck. Thoughts?

What can be done to improve it?

Also, the sideboard I currently have is strong for token matchups, Phoenix, and removal. What can be done there?

Thanks!

I play Cheerios in Legacy so I really wanted the deck to work in Pioneer.

Sadly, with only one draw engine in Sram I just don't think it's viable in the format. Thoughtseize , Shock , Wild Slash etc.. can take him out before you get to draw even one card. And to make matters worse, there is no Pioneer equivalent to Noxious Revival , Regrowth etc.. for Graveyard recursion so once he's gone, he gone.

No Grapeshot wincon sux too.

If Puresteel Paladin is reprinted in a future set then maybe Cheerios could step up in Pioneer...we'll have to wait and see.

My current setup is using Thud to deal direct damage after a creature is buffed or when Colossus Hammer can be equipped on one. It’s a low probability against control matchups, but it’s super fun.

Sigarda's Aid acts in place of puresteel, but is not as effective since the equipment can’t be moved freely after it enters the battlefield.

If Sram has a chance to resolve and you can pump out the 0 cost equipments with Sigarda on the board from turn 1, it is a surprisingly effective deck. But it does rely on multiple pieces with no recursion. If I splash blue there are some answers, but you lose potency and a turn in a pretty aggressive format.

So far with what is avail label this is the closest I have gotten to a working Cheerios deck.

You say you it's "Turn 4 Win"? Then it's low probability against aggro too, not just control. The problem with Thud is that you need a creature to survive on board, pump it up then have Thud in hand to deal the direct damage. Grapeshot is a lot more effective at winning games.

Sigarda's Aid is not a replacement for Puresteel Paladin as it provides Zero card draw. Try playing the Modern or Legacy version of Cheerios a few times and you'll see where I'm coming from :)

I have both modern and legacy versions of Cheerios decks in paper, and sigarda is just free equip. Sram does draw. There are counters to removal in the deck and sideboard as well as double strike. The deck doesn’t just have the one win con of thud, but it is a great one. Especially if you play the deck right.

Sigarda on board with Sram during the opponents turn let’s you play equipments at flash speed, once they use their mana you can combo out and draw into whatever answer you want on their turn.

Hey, it’s inconsistent and sloppy but it’s a working Cheerios deck using limited sets. Of course puresteel, hurkyls recall, Mox opal, and grapeshot are way more effective.

Turn 4 win is also the more reliable win that lets you wait out potential removal and respond, but it can and has rolled on people on turn 3 in perfect circumstances. (Like <10% of the time)

Land, sigarda

Land, Sram

Land, champion, combo, thud

Against burn with equipments gaining flash it’s easy to keep Sram up, the only issues I frequently run into are fatal push and trophy. For those the sideboard has 1 cost (creature gains indestructible) answers.

The goal is to ask the community for help in making it stronger for pioneer, not to have everyone compare it to a format that has more weaponry. Like I said, I already paper versions of Cheerios decks for those formats, this is an evolving pioneer specific build.

I also think maybe splashing blue would help but then mana consistency really starts being an issue with no fetches.
