Is this seriously banned in EDH? Please dear God tell me it isn't and TappedOut is just being weird. PLEASE TELL ME THAT IT ISN'T TRUE ;w;

Seriously though, is Upheaval banned in EDH?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MY COMBO D8 cries forever in the corner

Uh... Inundate ?

I'm sorry but no GoldGhost012. That is a severe downgrade. I might just run Devastation Tide instead...This annoys me. Upheaval is banned but not Armageddon ? Bullshit

Armageddon sucks, but at least it doesn't necessarily kill the pace of a game. Upheaval is just a straight-up game stopper. I suspect that's why it is banned.

So why isn't Obliterate banned? To me that's far worse than Upheaval , yet it's perfectly legal and okay? That's not right, at all.

Because indestructibles are a thing, doesn't hit enhantments or Planeswalkers, can be reaccessed through the graveyard, is an 8-drop, and immediately generates massive hate. That would be my guess.

Bounce everything for 6 is really a lot better than destroy for 8. There is such a thing as indestructible, and the bouncing effect is much more frustrating in most cases.

Cyclonic Rift is a good alternative, alongside Devastation Tide .

Worldpurge is a great alternative that basically does the same thing.

It's possible to Ghostway + Upheaval VERY easily in EDH. I'm glad the card is banned.

Or, even easier is to just float mana to re-cast stuff after Upheaval . Making it a one-sided wipe.

August 27, 2014 2:33 p.m.

Cyclonic Rift is the "fair" alternative. Land removal/destruction from cards like Upheaval is groan-worthy.

August 27, 2014 2:53 p.m.

Well, I can see why the card is banned. Not saying it isn't necessary or unworthy. I do run Cyclonic Rift , and I guess I have to replace Upheaval with Devastation Tide . Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

What was the combo?

August 27, 2014 4:47 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #18

Probably just Upheaval , because it's probably broken enough to be a combo.

August 27, 2014 4:49 p.m.

Well to be honest it was more synergistic than combo.

I'd get out mana rocks and ramp heavily, then get out Mana Reflection . I'd add all mana to my mana pool, use 6 for Upheaval and then recast all my creatures. I once recast Mistcutter Hydra for 17

The deck is Before I Forget, which I will be changing Upheaval with Devastation Tide . I mainly used Upheaval as a win condition more than a game staller
