Is an Ajani Cat EDH deck viable?

By that I mean is there enough good tribal Cat creatures to make a decent EDH deck, and would there be a good commander that would also make them playable? I'm not looking to build a top tier EDH deck. I just think it'd be a fun deck to play even if you lose.

Focus on tokens, not creature cards.

Kemba, Kha Regent is typically considered the best Cat token general.

Yeah, tokens would probably be your best bet. Kemba, lots of equipment, Leonin Shikari , White Sun's Zenith maybe, lots of anthem effects.

Raksha Golden Cub

Commander. Lots of cats and equipments. It could be so fun :D

I advise against using Raksha Golden Cub as a commander because it's expensive and really doesn't offer any benefit. You would need to build around a token producer to which you don't have constant access, or you would need to include individual tribal cards (which is a very weak choice because it's resource and deck space intensive).

If you don't want to go the Voltron route with Kemba, you could always use Brimaz, King of Oreskos too

Lol I had this idea just today, so I doubt that was me XD.

Anyway, tokens may be the best, but I want to have a ton of different cool looking cat creature cards in my deck.

I'd need a good G/W Legendary Cat to make this happen though. If that's not avaliable I will probably go the token route.

I'm not looking it to be the most effective just really cool to play.

These are your general options.

Seems like Brimaz or Kemba are my best choices.

I was looking to combo Ajani, Caller of the Pride with Ajani, Mentor of Heroes but I guess I can still do that in modern.

I'm really not sure how you intend to combo them. You can't have them out at the same time, and they have no interactions, much less combos. I guess you could ult Ajani, Mentor of Heroes , then ult Ajani, Caller of the Pride , but you're looking at a several-turn window between those abilities.

Oh I didn't understand how planeswalkers worked!!!

I've only been playing since May 1st.

Each player can only control one planeswalker of any given subtype. For example, you can control one Ajani and one Jace, but not two Ajanis.

I'm actually running/building on a Selesnya cat tribal/voltron deck that has Karametra, God of Harvests as the general. You can get a lot of use out of the cards that bounce creatures back to your hand (e.g. Whitemane Lion or Steelshaper Apprentice ) to get a lot of lands out in relatively short order. Plus, you get access to the green cats like Mirri, Cat Warrior or Jedit Ojanen of Efrava (or even Qasali Pridemage ).

I think you'd have a lot more options for a Cat Tribal deck if you didn't use a Cat as your commander. If you find a Green and White commander with a similar theme, you'll be able to build more flexible decks and use your favorite Cat cards.
