Bought the Jeskai Precon, Mostly Not My Style... But Gerrard...

Commander (EDH) forum

Hello!

I've been playing with the new precon with some tweaks against other precons that have been suped up, and I've not been enjoying it. Something I really like in it, however, was Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero . I want to do something with him, but I can't decide if he should be the commander or not. I know there are some degenerate combos with him, but I don't do cEDH, dislike eggs, and would like to aim for that 75% mindset. Does anyone have any lists he's good in? I'd be open to lists with him as the leader, as long as it isn't super cutthroat.

EDIT: Guess what I'm looking for can be TLDR; as this: A resilient deck with either Gerrard in, or leading it.

Thanks!

I mean if you're looking for something stupid but not eggs, you could look at packing the deck with a bunch of mana rocks and then using Worldslayer . Not only does it help kill Gerrard, but it red/white has good equipment support in general, which could lend to the theme of the deck.

Check out the possible cuts section to see what I haven’t had time to take out. I want to go more aggro because Gerrard is so anti-boardwipe.

Which precon is the strongest/most competitive of the four?

Nasser_inside1 out of the box? The strongest may be the Naya/populate deck. The creature based pre con decks (in the last years at least) are usually better because they need less expensive cards to work. The morph/sultai is fun to play and without a great effort can be turned in a well tuned morph deck (for fun). The Jeskai one is not really good out of the box but is probably the most upgradeable into a very solid and strong deck. The Rakdos/madness one is probably the worst since it lacks a solid win condition and madness cards are in general not really good (however Anje and K'rikk are very good cards on their own). On a competitive level they would be totally changed so we should talk about which legendary creature is the best as a commander for cEDH...

I agree the Naya deck out of the box was the strongest, but my friends think it was the jeskai deck only because i delayed the game so long out of the box that i could win. For competitive I'm torn between Elsha, K'rikk, Gerrard, and Atla Palani being the strongest

Okay I really wanna use Worldslayer now. Thanks.

Suns_Champion:

Just what I wanted. Thanks for the list! I'll be sure to look at it frequently when building.

Off what others said, and keep in mind we all did about 10 card upgrades:

Naya: Strong out of the box, easy to upgrade, yet it starts to falter eventaully from the around 12 games I've played against it.

Sultai: Best from my point of view, its easy to upgrade, strongest color combination, and has a really fun theme. Only reason I didn't get it cause my one friend called it.

Rakdos: 2nd Weakest out of the box, weakest in general to be honest. Saving grace for buying it is Solemn Simulacrum and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth . Still a fun deck to pilot.

Jeskai: The one I got. It's the lategame powerhouse, but doens't have many ways of getting there. It does have Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero which is pretty cool.

But then the jeskai gives me two of my favorite commanders, Elsha of the Infinite and that wall dude, I’m also not using sevvine as the main commander, I’ll be using elsha straight out of the box.

Sun Titan can be recur Command Beacon , which lets you bypass commander tax and be more cavalier with how you use Gerrard, Vedalken Orrery lets you play the pieces at instant speed, and Titan and Orrery are both recurrable by Gerrrard if you have a sac outlet, which creates an absurdly resilient base for a gameplan.
