IKORIA/COMMANDER 2020 UPDATE —May 22, 2020

Hello! Hope everyone is staying safe during Quarantine. Haven't gotten the chance to play much Commander but we'll eventually get back to normal. Ikoria is the plane of the large monster which unfortunately doesn't include a lot of dragons. And with the deck already jam packed, a lot of additions/tradeouts in the decks are either going to be better versions of cards or strictly awesome new dragons going forward. But we're just looking to lower the deck's curve and make things more consistent while we wait for Dragons to come. Hopefully the upcoming Core Set has a nice one!

(EXCLUSION) Sprite Dragon: More of spellslinger type deck dragon. This one doesn't scale as the game goes and we don't have a ton of ways to make it bigger fast.

Fires of Invention > Crucible of Fire

Casting multiple spells in a turn is what this deck wants to do and Fires enables it. We don't have a lot of instants to deal with the drawback of Fires but it definitely speeds our game plan up. Crucible felt unnecessary with a certain amount of the creatures being non dragons and the normal dragons being big enough already to finish to the job.

Dryad of the Ilysian Grove > Golos, Tireless Pilgrim

Golos was a good ramp option but came down way too late than I wanted and missing on his activated ability pretty much losses you the game with how much it sets you behind. So, we lower the curve with Dryad. Helps us ramp if we end up drawing lots of lands off our card draw effects later and fixes our mana which is always nice.

Ketria Triome > Frontier Bivouac

Better upgrade tri land. Still trying to find ways to fix a few more red sources and one of each basic in the deck but I'll figure it out eventually.

Nice update for this deck. Talking about gods, I'm running Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded instead Sneak Attack. I know SA it's one mana cost less than Purphoros, and just one Red mana to bring down creatures from your hand, but the God seens to be good enough as a substitute. It can give haste to all another creatures on field, and can do the same as Sneak Attack costing a little more. Being Indestructible it's a bonus. Think about it.

(I can buy Purphoros, but can not buy Sneak Attack. That's the real deal) :'D

Willen Yeah Purphoros is a decent budget replacement. You might run into some issues of only being able to cheat in red creatures as not every dragon in the deck is red but it's still fine. If you we're to splurge on some upgrades, Sneak Attack is definitely one of the top ones I would recommend as you can have some pretty wild games with it.

Just an FYI. Your card choices section is in the middle of all the commanders you have beaten, also you have Niv-Mizzet, Parun listed twice in the card draw section.

The primer is great and I'll definitely be using it as I build my own Ur-Dragon deck

The_Munchkin Yeah the HTML Coding I do in the description somehow messed itself up and I can't figure it out now with my computer motherboard fried. I'll be sure to find a fix by the time Ikoria rolls around!

Okay, the HTML is fixed. I haven't been here in ages ... I'm waiting to see if any of Ikoria's mutations will be put in the deck. The only one that has interested me so far is the Illuna, especially with the extremely well done art by King Gidorah
