You have to understand that we couldn't really write about every single deck in the entire format; many decks that might have one placement in the top8 of a small event will have been missed. The other problem is of course that any deck that's been seen only a few times will be hard to write a primer for because it's extremely difficult to discuss their varieties, how they face up against the entire meta, and alternative card choices - because there isn't any data! We'd have to sort of..... make stuff up.

@slurpiee I have finished writing the large primer but need to go back and fix formatting and do some small edits. It'll be up here this afternoon once I get back from school.

When are we going to get the small version of the storm primer finished? I can't even remember who was doing it?

MTGSalvation has a really great Restore Balance primer, with alternate builds, sideboarding, and matchup analyses. I don't know if it'll be any help, but here ya go.

Sorry to be persistent, but I just really like this archetype. It's too hilarious not to adore.

It will come. We still have to actually finish the current version and get Pod and stuff added. The 'lower than T2' decks will come later.

Just lettin' you know, the link is broken for the extended primer in the Gifts section.

Shall I change it to 'being completed'

Yeah, the decklist is up, but it's in no fit state for public viewing. I'm still tweaking my personal decklist to suit the meta, and will upload the Primer when I have a proper sideboard.

Great Primer! I wish my favorite deck (Green Devotion) could have a spot here, but I understand why it doesn't. Tier 2+ decks don't really need primers at this stage, and adding every Modern deck list is impossible. I feel "Naya Zoo" should just be "Zoo" because they can splash almost any color and still have it be Zoo. Also: "[Blue] is a colour that is somewhat weak on its own" That made me lol. Blue: weakest color has been called. I get why you say that, but strongly disagree.

Blue doesn't really have many wincons on its own - it's a support colour. It works best with something else providing a way to actually win. Mono blue decks basically don't exist because Delver of Secrets  Flip and Vendilion Clique on their own usually aren't enough to close out a game.

@ChiefBell- I agree that Blue doesn't have many ways to win a game, but I feel it is more than a support color. First on the creatures though. It has very few, I agree. But look at Blue Moon. It's basically Mono-Blue control splashing red for the best red cards in Modern (Moon and Bolt). What's the win-con? Batterskull. It's not Blue, but it doesn't need to be. UR Delver is dominantly blue, here I'm looking at the mana base. I know all the non-Delver threats are Red, but Blue is more than a support color here. Scapeshift and Splinter Twin are both base Blue control decks with combo finishes. I believe that Blue is the strongest color in Modern, not the weakest. I do understand why you believe Blue is weak. Not ending a game is very important in making a deck and Mono- Blue generally cannot

See you keep saying I said that blue was the weakest colour and at no point have I EVER written that. You've taken what I've written and run with it so far you've left planet earth. Stop straw manning.

In basically all of the decks you listed blue is there for card draw and counterspells - that's a supportive role. A primary role is actively winning the game, a supportive role is helping you win the game with other means. You can play as many Remands as you want but you'll never win. You can play as many Treasure Cruises as you want - but you'll never win.

You've confirmed it yourself though. Blue moon wins with a non blue card. UR delver is most likely to win with non blue cards. Twin can win games without blue - it essentially relies on a red card to win.

It absolutely does not matter the quantity of each colour in those decks - you take blue out and you still have ways to win, but if you take the other colours out you lose your wincon. That applies to all but delver. It is clearly a case of blue helping you to win. It is supporting the wincon. Therefore blue on its own is somewhat weak. Its not a difficult logic process.

I made absolutely no judgment about blue combined with other colours. In many ways I would say yes blue is the strongest colour - if it has off colour support. Primarily because it can propel you to victory extremely quickly and protect your assets. However it has little permanent assets of its own to offer. No goblin guide. No restoration angel. No tarmogoyf.

Mono white is played as a successful deck. Mono red is one of the best decks in the format. Mono black isn't an awful deck, although the current meta is unkind. Mono green infect can be exceedingly strong. Mono blue barely exists. There is mono blue with vedalken shackles but that's an exceedingly rare deck.

griselbrand reanimator needs to be added to the list. I believe it is a tier 1 deck with the right pilot, but we can label it as Tier 2. It definitely needs to be added to the list though. I can add the list and accompanying reading material if need be

Just to be fair, ninja-bear delver placed well for a little bit (probably due to no one knowing about it) and merfolk is primarily mono blue. Still chief Is still correct otherwise

I guess I just have a different definition of supporting color. The reason I said Blue was the weakest color was because in the Primer you only talk about the weaknesses of Blue (to some extent Black and Red as well). In my thinking, since the strongest cards in X Deck are Blue, I assumed that Blue what be the main color. I do understand why you believe Blue can only be a supporting color. If I use your definition of supporting, I would agree. My feel for Blue is that decks (not splashing for Treasure Cruise) would not be top-tier decks without it. To me, that role doesn't sound as support. If I remember that Shackles deck is Ninja-Bear-Delver that Travis Woo made a while ago. Fish/Merfolk is another Mono-Blue deck that out-aggros the opponent, although that is probably the exception to the norm. In my stereotypical "Blue=Busted" mind, I missed what you were really saying. Looking back for five seconds, we were arguing over the definition of support instead of the strength of Blue currently.

Sorry I moved the discussion from the Primer and deck suggestions to the role of Blue (and the double post). The Primer looks great though! Can't think of a deck to add that isn't a rogue brew! +1

How do u do the hide/show tags?

December 3, 2014 8:33 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #18

Khanye - Goryo's Vengeance has been added to the list of decks to do, alongside Bloom, Balance, and others.

Hider1120 - arguing semantics can happen sometimes. It is unfortunate.

APPLE01DOJ -

(details)(summary)TITLE OF SECTION(/summary)

To put show/hide tags inside show/hide tags you do:

(details)(summary)TITLE OF SECTION(/summary)

(details)(summary)TITLE OF SUBSECTION1(/summary)

TEXT(/details)

(details)(summary)TITLE OF SUBSECTION2(/summary)

TEXT(/details)(/details)

Notice: there are two (/details) tags at the end when you have show/hide inside another show/hide.

I would change the Jeskai Ascendancy to tier one and the UWR deck list from worlds that wrapter, pv, and Tom martell played when you guys have a chance.

Probably put mono blue with RG. Unsure. We can always do two short primers under one heading.
