FNM 1/16/15 —Jan. 22, 2015

Decided to finally get around to writing about the deck before I played another FNM.

Finished 2-0-1 again and decided to make a few sideboard changes.

These changes were as follows:

-1 End Hostilities because I never found I was boarding them in.

-1 Banishing Light because I recently upped the count of Utter End, and don't like playing removal that can be removed.

-2 Pharika's Cure, as Nyx-Fleece Ram should provide both better life gain and be a better wall against aggro.

Round 1

Opponent: Sidisi Whip

Game 1: My god. Longest game of my life. Neither of us died, and he ended up losing by decking out. The first half of the game was very uneventful. I was stuck on lands while he kept hitting lands, dorks, and whips. We were both basically doing nothing. I eventually resolved both Elspeth, Sun's Champion, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, and Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker at the same time, but still couldn't close it because he was just running into his good stuff. We battled it out with me getting up to 80 life and him getting to 68. The game ended with him at 68 and me at 57 when he ran out of deck.

Game 2: We only had 4 minutes to play the game so it went to a draw, but he would've had me. He saw several early Sagu Maulers in the graveyard and had a Whip of Erebos, so I would have died in no time.

Round 2

Opponent: Jeskai Burn

Game 1: Small creatures with prowess tried to bring the pain, but were all removed. Brought out Elspeth, Sun's Champion for a fast win.

Game 2: He boarded out 12 cards, which were mostly creatures, and brought in 'walkers and burn. I predicted that he was going tokens, so I got cards to stop him from going wide. He ripped burn off the top for the first part of the game, but couldn't find any more gas when I was down to 3. Brimaz, King of Oreskos did the job in just a few turns.

Round 3

Opponent: Abzan Constellation

Game 1: His deck was meant to be played slowly putting out enchantments that trigger constellation on grim gaurdian and other things to chip. I got out 4 zombies from Empty the Pits and a Sorin, Solemn Visitor to wrap up game 1.

Game 2: I couldn't find a win-con in time and he chipped me away. The removal I had wasn't suited to keep his guys that were chipping at bay, as I had too many high cost 1 for 1 removal spells.

Game 3: Not enough time left to play. Did a few turns but nobody was at a clear advantage.
