Some switches to the unblockable cards. —Oct. 17, 2017

2x Gruesome Deformity and 1x Predator's Gambit has been switched out for 3x Key to the City. This card is cheap to run, doesn't care if our opponents have black creatures AND allows for a second draw a turn.

I have this same kind of deck (Ultra-budget: Wrath of the Witch-King) but it attempts to get a Worldslayer on Phylactery Lich. Since my deck is casual I just added 4 Dark Ritual 4 Diabolic Tutor and 4 Liliana of the Dark Realms.

I haven't yet tested it, but it was far too slow previously for my tastes. Even if I had the combo pieces in hand, I usually didn't have enough mana, and If I had enough mana I didn't have the pieces in hand. So I just added the cards I thought would contribute directly to either more mana or card-finding.

newoldman654 I actually used to run worldslayer in this deck too, but found that strategy to be much too slow unfortunately. I've changed this bad boy several times since first building it to reduce mana cost and speed it up, hence adding the infect. I think thiscurrent build is just about as good as I can get it unless there are better artifacts out there that I don't know about yet haha. Let me know if you find better solutions for this deck, I'm always looking to improve it!

All those Black Mana symbols... Gray Merchant of Asphodel?

Scion_of_Darkness,

Gray Merchant of Asphodel is a great card, but this deck struggled originally with mana cost, especially because a lot of the mana base is tied up in actually equipping things to our creatures. Unfortunately there are a lot of black symbols, but I think you'd never really do more than like 3-4 damage by playing Gray Merchant. If you do play a version of this deck with Gray Merchant in it and it turns out successful, let me know! Thank you for the suggestion.

My take on playing the Lich is to clear the board with Life's Finale and World Slayer instead of the route you've chosen of evasion. I play Darksteel Citadel and Darksteel Ingot both to put the Liches counter on and to have some mana after Worldslayer hits. My build also rocks Ensoul Artifact and Tezzeret's Touch. I'd link you the deck if I knew how. I guess click on my user name, right?

Scion_of_Darkness I actually have a Darksteel Ingot coming to me in the mail for this deck to test. In the past I had major issues getting the mana for my wincon going.. Especially because worldslayer is such a high cost (5 to play, 5 to equip). I also found my Vampire Nighthawk to be extremely powerful as an alternate wincon, especially with poison. I removed all mass removal and just decided to go with unblockable 10/10 poison strike.

People that don't play mainly mono black, stop suggesting Gray Merchant of Asphodel in every mono black deck, it's not good in every deck...
