Funeral Pyre

Instant

Remove target card in a graveyard from the game. Its owner puts a 1/1 white Spirit creature token with flying into play.

I like weenie decks, so +1 for that alone.

Also cheers on correctly using Populate, I can't tell you how many times I've had to tell people to re-read that one (thinking it will clone their non-token creatures) haha...

SOME THOUGHTS (Nothing Expensive to Purchase):

You might take a look at Funeral Pyre and Beckon Apparition for some even lower mana-cost ways to create those 1/1 fliers early on.

You should also definitely make some room in your Enchantments to run 4x Intangible Virtue -- that's bread & butter for any token deck in my opinion.

Also, while I realize you have no black mana, but Vault Skirge can be played in any color deck, and that'd be a 1-mana way to get a 1/1 Lifelink Flier

Finally: Eyes in the Skies could be replaced by something more equal to Raise the Alarm ...since you're only using Populate to create a 1/1, you can just read Populate in this build as "create an additional 1/1 of something". Therefore, 4 mana for 2 1/1's isn't that great. You could replace these with Midnight Haunting , which will save you 1 mana and is itself only one more mana than Raise the Alarm and is still at Instant Speed.

FireRogue on Ragged Pyre Pauper

I stumbled across this list looking for ideas for my own Ragged Veins / Harvest Pyre combo deck, and so I've also been looking for solutions to the creatureless opponent problem. I'm not sure my search was as extensive as it could have been, but I've only found 2 cards of interest. Unfortunately, one is green, and the other is white.

Funeral Pyre is sweet because it's instant, but unfortunately, it's a pretty useless card.

Wild Dogs can at least cycle, but it does need to survive until your upkeep, which against a deck like teachings doesn't seem too likely

Well the packs got out of order and we didn't notice, so we opened a Judgment pack instead (guess we have to wait another day to see if we get that foil Entomb!) ... oops!

But the good news is Pick 1 is, for the first time, our rare!

Show

As expected from the block that introduced graveyard shenanigans to the world, the pack also had bunch of fun graveyard-matters cards: Grip of Amnesia; Rats' Feast; Funeral Pyre; and Exoskeletal Armor.

We were kind of bummed we didn't get any of the Incarnations (e.g., Genesis and Glory at rare), but we did get a bunch of interesting cards:

And we also have a new pick for best flavor text of the calendar (so far!): Cabal Trainee

Tomorrow: Odyssey. For real this time! :-)
