Scorprix Jund Hayterz gun git Shrekt

Hi, my name's Alex. I've been playing Magic for a relatively long time, but only started purchasing cards around Dragon's Maze. I like modern and standard most, but I still do play casually quite often. If you haven't already noticed, I thoroughly enjoy building budget decks and playing Jund.

Haha thanks Zaueski. I have no idea what the best deck will, be but I assume some sort of saheeli combo. Next will probably be some type of / or Jund/Naya Rhonas the Indomitable deck with HoK, and after that it might be some sort of Marvel deck. RDW might make a come back, or at least plashing blue and/or black. From there it will probably be different types of the same decks, like variations of Dynavolt or Dredge. I also think cycling control or combo will also have a place in the meta.

Huh Weirding Wood seems ok. The only issue I see is that it requires green to cast, which can be tricky sometimes. The colored mana is definitely a significant upside. I am very interested about how it has held up in testing, as it also might be good as Wood plays around Dissenter's Deliverance. It feels like I'd have to make some pretty significant manabase changes, but is that sacrifice worth the upside. I'm also not sure how played Natural State will be post-amonkhet, so that may also make me switch these around. Any recommendations from testing?

Getting storm counts of 30+ is most of the time. Card draw is pretty light, but I don't need much. As I said earlier, normal storm needs lots of card draw because they struggle to generate as much mana, so they always have to be drawing into more rituals, but each "ritual" in this deck generates a lot more mana, so therefore you require less card draw. If you have any recommendations for this deck then please, tell me! haha

Thanks! Haha yea legacy is pretty amazing vs this deck, maybe I should cut some Anticipates in favor of Negates in the SB? Could be worth it, but I'm not sure. I'll look into it.

Thanks, that's very nice of you to say. :)

This deck is about $15 apart from the lands, which you can EASILY pick up online each for about $2-4 (depending on the colors). So yes, this deck is indeed budget as you can buy the entire thing for around $70-80.

How come? I have actually played both decks, and I can definitely confirm that this deck has been more successful, strange as that sounds. It wins on T2 like 5-10% of the time, and requires no creatures in play to win. None are especially well positioned right now, but I definitely think this deck is better.

typo in the title btw.

I also personally don't think Fevered Visions belongs, but maybe I'm wrong. Also, wouldn't Cathartic Reunion be better than Tormenting Voice as it gets more cards into your graveyard to pump up Enigma Drake? It requires a larger investment, but might still be pretty strong.

it doesn't haha. Unless your opponent is really dumb an plays into Censor, you kind of just lose to them. However, people barely play that card, and when they do it is as a one or two of, so the likelihood of them actually drawing it is incredibly low, so that isn't really an issue.

Just so you know, Bone Picker seems a little hard to cast in your deck. Magma Spray and Incendiary Flow will not trigger the cost reduction because they exile, so an early bone picker can really only be triggered by Fatal Push, Lightning Axe and Shock which is surprisingly hard vs anything other than Vehicles. It can still be done consistently, but just consider switching your burn numbers around to ensure you can drop the picker early.

Actually, it's the other way around: This deck has been great vs aggro. Like, absolutely incredible. However, it does struggle vs counterspells, so against control you really need to dedicate most of your SB slots.

I hope you know Dryad Arbor+Glimpse of Nature doesn't work.

Glimpse requires you to cast the creature, which Dryad does not fulfill, it is just played without being cast. Dryad also has summoning sickness when you play it, so it cannot really be tapped for mana unless you pass the turn and the opponent doesn't kill it. It's only use is being immediately sacrificed to Ashnod's Altar, but you can only do that once per turn because it is a land.

I suggest adding some Beck / Calls or something instead.

Also thanks! Sunscorched Desert is something I looked into earlier, but in the end is just a waste of space. It almost never works or helps since you have a bunch of fogs and counters anyways, and spending a Shefet Monitor can legit cost you the game.

Nah I'm just proud I came up with a sweet deck almost a whole week before a whole team of sweaty pro-players lol.

If you see another Geier Reach Sanitarium, then try adding a Perpetual Timepiece, but for now I don't want to lose consistency and SB space to add a card that barely works in this deck.

Yea that card kinda blows for me, but usually opponents won't draw their hate cards anyways so I'm hinging on that mostly.

hey thx

You should be able to win if you have your entire deck in hand so you shouldn't need any safety net.

Ah thanks! It was really annoying me how it kept linking me to a deck haha.

I know the meta will vastly shift after amonkhet drops (probably apart from sheeli combo), but if this deck can fight above par with the current aggro and combo decks then it hopefully at least stands a chance with the new decks. Most of the decks that seems playable post-akh seem to be aggressive and not run a lot of counters, meaning that this deck should be able to thrive. Thank you for the advice however, and I have yet to test vs any zombie decks, so I'll give that a few shots to test the waters. Any recommended lists I should look at?

April 18, 2017 12:44 p.m.

Haha no problem mate. The deck takes some practice, but is pretty quick to nail down.

April 17, 2017 10:34 p.m.

Yes, I know it only triggers when it itself is cycled. What made you think otherwise? It still generates untapped mana and is amazing. I also know that Shadow of the Grave only returns card cycled "this turn". Why does that matter here? In no way does that hinder my deck's plan of casting New Perspectives and immediately cycling my whole deck. I really don't want to come across as rude, but did you even read the deck description or test the deck before you commented? New Perspectives also draws me 3 cards on etb, so I can definitely cast other spells for utility before I combo out.

Thanks! I'm happy you like the deck. Eggs may be boring to watch, but yea it's fun as hell to play haha. What would adding a Forest do? The purpose of monitor is to generate mana during your combo turn, not really to ramp unless absolutely necessary. Again, I have no problem with advice and ideas, I'm just not sure what the Forest would help with.

Yea this deck is pretty cool imo, and in testing has been able to pull out some pretty clutch wins. Minotaurs is pretty cool too, and a deck I do hope to see at some point. I think this deck is pretty strong, and should be able to pull its weight against even decks with hyper-aggresive starts like vehicles and (in this case) minotaurs haha. Thanks for the compliments!

Fiery Temper and other madness effects don't work with Shadow of the Grave. If you read the reminder text, it says to "discard this card into exile" and then put it in your graveyard. Therefore it will not be returned by Shadow. Samut, Voice of Dissent also isn't very good in a deck like this, and removing it allows you to cut around 3 lands. That opens up 9 slots, meaning you can make this into a more refined aggro deck with cards like Pia Nalaar, Fatal Push, Heart of Kiran, Shock, Walking Ballista, Unlicensed Disintegration, Glint-Sleeve Siphoner and/or Harnessed Lightning. Other weaker, non-repeatable discard outlets like Heir of Falkenrath  Flip can be good too if you want to increase the Honored Hydra count.

Sorry if it looks like I just listed a bunch of stuff, but I really like this deck idea, and I feel like it might be able to go somewhere if you reduce the Shadow of the Grave count and add better aggro cards, and rely on just the occasional t3 kill.
