free control magic?

Asked by LordAshaman 6 years ago

If I have a Rubinia Soulsinger out and tap her to gain control of a creature say Massacre Wurm. Then I cast Restoration Angel targeting the massacre wurm in my opponents end step. A. it says you control and I control it.. It then says put onto the battlefield under your control. Would it or because it left the field go under my opponents control.B. Could I untap Rubinia and still have control of massacre wurm even though she is untapped.. I had this exact scenario lastnight and thought it better to clean it up.. Thanks in advance

It goes back under your control, exactly as Restoration Angel says. If it were to go back under its owner's control, it'd say so like how Oblivion Ring's LTB ability is worded.

The card will re-enter as a new object and will remain under your control indefinitely. The Massacre Wurm Rubinia Soulsinger took control of no longer exists, so you can untap her with no repercussions.

Yes, the interaction works just like you think it does. When you blink a creature, it enters the battlefield as a new object, so Rubinia's ability (just like all other abilities that reference a specific permanent) doesn't recognize it. You can untap her without losing control of the wurm

KeepWhile this interaction does work, when looking at other cards for your deck read them carefully. Cloudshift would work, as it returns under your control, but Acrobatic Maneuver would not as it returns under it's owner's control. Also, Venser, the Sojourner would not be able to even target it, as it targets things you own rather than things you control.
