Can I have Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius on the battlefield at once?

I'm a bit confused with the legend rule.

They're different legendary creatures, so the rule wouldn't apply, I believe. Having them out is an evil little combo, but I digress. The legendary rule only applies if you're getting out more than one of the same legendary creature (and even then, Mirror Gallery throws that out the window).

Thank you! yep it's an evil fun combo. Haven't had them both out at once yet but can't wait to see it.

I just had the sneaky suspicion that because they are both "Legendary Creature - Dragon Wizard" that they might cancel each other out. So planeswalkers are the only cards that work like that? Like I can't have two different Jaces on the field right?

Yeah, you can't have two of the same planeswalker. You have to pick one to hit the graveyard if you were to cast, say, Garruk, Primal Hunter while Garruk, Caller of Beasts is on the field.

The only legendary creatures not affected that much by the rule besides both Niv-Mizzet variants is Brothers Yamazaki . Otherwise, you pick one of the same legendary creature to die.

For Legends it's only the name that matters. Nicol Bolas and Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker can even be on the field at the same time as each other, as can Karn, Silver Golem and Karn Liberated . For planeswalkers, it's the subtype that matters. In addition to the above exceptions is the sort-of exception Stangg .
