Help with my brisela deck

Modern Deck Help forum

Hey there, im relative new to Magic the Gathering, if it comes to more than kitchentable magic. so i wnated to go into more competitive Mgic (read as FNM and local tourneys at ma LGS). Cause Standard isnt really attractive to me cause rotation, a thing that also killed Hearthstone for me, but this just as a sidenote. So i want to get into modern.

Why im looking for help? as i said im relatively new, just started half a year ago, and not really knowing much cards (and owning only cards from SOI to Aether revolt). And i just dont have the time to look through thousands of cards, which doesnt mean im not looking into it.

So why Brisela? Cuase i think its pretty awesome. Gisela, Broken Blade alone is a really good card, but Brisela is the cherry on top. So i wanted to build a deck around her, more control like, so i can bring out my Brisela and just finish the enmy with it. Ive choosen red white as my colors, and as now the deck i thougt of looks like this: Red/White Brisela

What am i trying to do? As said, iwant to keep the enemy at bay till i can play Brisela.

Why i choose exactly this cards?

Archangel Avacyn: First, i can flash her in, so if my board is low and an creature of me would die, i can flash in avacyn, then flip her to deal damge to all opponents. A great card if you ask me.

Gisela and bruna: the win conditions. Gisela with 4/3 first striek and flying is a threat to deal with, but will most likely die to lightning bolt. Bruna gives me the chance to get her back on cast and so meld her together. Giselas low toughness let me add Always Watching , not to give her only more strength and toughness making her theoretically boltproof, but also gives it to all other creatures top ansd also vigilance.

Knight of the white orchid: 2/2 first striker, that can also get me an additional land out if i should fall back.

Thalia and nahiri: Its quite a nice couple, Thalia let all non basic lands and creatures come tapped into play, letting me them exile next turn with nahiri. also a 3/2 first strike. Also with nahiri i have kind of an draw engine. With her ult i can search out any creature neccesary, for example bruna if gisela is already in grave.

Linvala: a nice tool to have. Let me get 5 life, or an angel token with 3/3. also 5/5 flying is not bad on its own.

thalias Lancers: a tutor for my many legendary creatures. Also an 4/4 first striker.

gideon: makes bodys to protect me, himself or he turns himself into one to deal with threats. Also is his ult a nice addition.

chandra: With her + i can draw, deal damage or get 2 mana, reducing her cost to 2 practically. also has a removal on board.

Blessed alliance: very flexible card. Can give my life, untap my creatures or let my enemy sacrifice attacking ones. Or all at once, if i can pay for it.

All removal spells: Self explaniry, atleast i think so :D

I would really appreciate any kind of help, criticism and so on. Also forgive my english, im german and not that good at english.

I have a question. Have you played modern or seen it at your LGS yet? What they play very much affect how you make your deck

Your LGS meta is important to the functionality of your deck. The deck you're describing to me, at least, seems like a good basis for an EDH deck. Bruna costs a bit too much to seem good, unless you have a decent amount of ramp.

I thought it could potentially go in a taxes deck, since the goal of those is to make opponents durdle about

I saw al ot of people on the internet, playing it as an W/B version. Never got the real feel for it, cause i thought to be better with the nahiri combo serching out my cost intensive cards like bruna, she isnt doing that much on her own.

To the LGS question, no, i always played kitchen tbale. Okay, i was playing last night FNM draft there, but this isnt really getting me an sinsight on the meta.

Im not that much of an powerplayer, i mostly want to play thr cards i liek with atleast the possibility of winning time to time.

So, how would your list look like? i saw you commenting on the deck page, could you get me a little more detail on your version, maby on an upgraded of meine too? Cause the most cards for my version i already have, spare the path to exile and lightning bolts.

Honestly if you don't want to do blackwhite, you can do white red with Harsh Mentor. It's not as powerful as some of what black offers, but it can still potentially work. The idea is just to play creatures that inhibit your opponents freedom to act. The Thalia you have is good because it destroys haste and multicolored decks that require non-basics. The other Thalia is good because one turn sooner it sets control and burn back fairly far. It's a moderately hard deck to get the feel for, but rewarding when you do. I'm on my phone right now so I'm fairly limited in terms of deck building, but I'd be happy to work with you on making a list you like that functions well

Harsh mentor is a creature i considered myself since i saw it last night in draft. Didnt draw it any of my games so i couldnt really tell his value, but since you said it, it sounds well.

Yeah, i would really like to work with you together red white would be my favorised version, cause i already play black in standart so i wanted a change for modern, but im open for anything if we shouldnt be able to build a nice RW :D

The only reason I don't normally like red white is that it lacks good draw power, though With nahiri and chandra that should be a bit better, and if you can get a strong lock in your opening hand, it could work well. I'll do some research on other red cards that can cause some havoc in this deck.

You say you want control but (outside of prison decks) is the exact opposite of that, to get the effect you want where your opponents don't do much and you can meld (already unlikely put an interesting idea) you need or more likely . Those colours will give you the disruption necessary to hold your opponent at bay while you set up. I'm not saying it isn't possible in your colours you're just making it a bit more difficult.

Ash Zealot, Boros Reckoner, Eidolon of the Great Revel, and Blood Moon/Magus of the Moon are the best you got for actual control effects. Some of them are pretty pricey though. I think if you are going to spend any money on cards to get, eidolon is your best bet as far as pricey cards go, as it pairs well on the field with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. Moon effects are less important if you run heretic cathar anyway. zealot is good for a sideboard against zombies or other reanimators. boros reckoner you could take or leave. Just some ideas for solid red additions to get the most out of the splash of red

Blood moon sounds really got fpr most people play dual lands in modern, ash zealot would be a nice thing for sideboard i think. Also Eidolon. I think i will take the thalia in, since the legendary rule is going to change with ixalan
