Jace UoS Speculation

Worth the $13 he is now? Will he go up or down? What do you think?

Trying to decide if I should buy to stick in a casual mono-blue and a B/U control to compliment Ob.

Until Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip leaves Standard, he won't see a whole lot of play. Once he does rotate out, however, Jace, Unraveler of Secrets will see more play. I don't think he will hit too high though. His +1 is good for filtering decks, and his -2 is his protection clause, and if, heaven forbid, his ultimate ever goes off, you have set your opponent on their back foot for the rest of that game. However, I don't think he is Standard-viable unless you build something around him. he doesn't do the type of stuff that the Prodigy does. I think at best he will hit $15, maybe $17 while he remains in Standard, then fall to about $10 once he rotates out.

Ob Nixilis Reignited is nearly the same card but is stronger with his Murder ability versus Unsummon, and goes into nearly all the same decks Jace, Unraveler of Secrets could at this point.

As for when he rotates, I don't see him going any higher than $15, and that still seems advantageous.

Ob Nixilis Reignited is just better as a stand-alone. There's no reliable way to protect either walker.

All this said, he could pull an Architect of Thought and suddenly become super meta-potent. If he dips below 10 I would say snag a few.

If we get an unconditional 4 mana wipe like Day of Judgment, I can see him seeing more play.

Eh I bit the bullet and just bought one. I only do one ofs if I put planeswalkers in my decks anyway. Hazards of budget play lol.

Thanks for the input all.

If you're just doing a one-of, you might as well buy the card if you think you'll need it. A rise or fall of a few bucks won't kill you.

For most cards out of rotation I like, yes I just buy them. I just wanted to waiting and see if someone was going to put something like "Dude SOI Jace is total crap...blah blah...definitely a $5 after rotation".

Just revamping a Jace vs Chandra set, my first dabbling in blue and red.

Well, there's no doubt he'll be only a few bucks after settling once he rotates (in 18 months). He's unplayable in any other format, even EDH where you have things like Jace, Architect of Thought, Teferi, Temporal Archmage, and Jace Beleren.
