Swords to Plowshares vs Path to Exile?

Deck Help forum

Hi all! I'm working on this deck, and I can't decide which of the two cards I listed in the title would be a better choice for a cheap exile. It's the difference between giving the opponent land and giving them life points (Sword to Plowshares is also considerably cheaper in price).

I could use some opinions on what could be done here. Thanks!

Swords to Plowshares is by far the stronger card, but it's not legal in Modern. Path to Exile is the best White removal spell (possibly the best White spell period) in the format.

Personally, if given the choice, I'd give my opponent a little life over ramp.

depends on the format, and the deck type.

If you are playing modern, swords is not legal. so path would be your only option.

If you are playing a red/white/other burn deck, then path is the better option as the decks purpose is to negate their life. But I have seen someone Skullcrack thier opponent, swords a threat on the board, and then swing with better field advantage.

But most of the time giving life is a better set back then giving ramp.

Why does everybody forget about Condemn? Now granted they have to have a attacking creature to be able to use the spell but still its like a Terminus

That's the thing, they need to be attacking. A static Dark Confidant will be a real problem if you have a playset of Condemn over a playset of Path to Exile. Also, it's not a definitive answer since the creature ain't exiled.

Oust is another bad choice too for example. You could play a sorcery that temporarily gets rid of a creature over an actual removal spell but I'd tell you you're doing a mistake :)

To answer to the main thread, you don't have much choice indeed : go for 4x Path to Exile and you're good to go. If you ever play Legacy tho, play Swords to Plowshares
