Need help with token copies and how they work

Hello, I have been puzzling over how to essentially make infinite copies of artifact cards and playing them for free, however I am aware of the rule that states only 4 cards of the same name may be in a library at a time, and 1 legendary on the field. How do these rules apply to token copies? For example if i wanted to make copies of Blightsteel Colossus using Prototype Portal would i be able to make as many as i had mana to play after tapping the portal of course, or would i only be able to put 4 token copies of it on the field throughout the entire game? How does this also apply to something legendary like Godsend? Since these tokens aren't technically cards per say, this is confusing me quite a bit on how it works. Any help would be appreciated.

In the future, there is a forum specifically for rules questions - it is in the header, called "Rules Q&A".

1/ You should only have up to 4 copies of a card in your deck during deck construction. Having 4 Blightsteel Colossus and 4 Clone in the deck means you can have theoretically 8 Blightsteel Colossus on the field.

2/ Legendary permanents have the "legend rule" - only 1 permanent with that name may exist on the battlefield. If you make a copy of a legendary card, you will have to choose one and put it in the graveyard.

3/ This should answer your blightsteel question - you can have as many as you can get.

Yes Boza is correct. You may play up to 4 copies of each card in any deck except for a few that say so. But that doesn't matter. What does is the question at hand and if you copy a legendary card only 1 may be on the field at a time. However if you happen to pull the combo combo you may create as many tokens of the creature as long as you have the mana to do so.

Rats show your problems I think:

True: you can only have upto 4x copies of a card in your deck (a Playset), unless otherwise stated: Relentless Rats.

True: But you can have 4x of Pack Rat and make as many tokens as you want.

As for what a Token is:

True: I think you asked "they aren't cards per say". They are WHATEVER you choose it to be. A penny? I depends on how it was put there that counts. They are what was told to be put into play. A Copy of a card, or just a 2/2 Black Zombie Token from Vile Rebirth say. And you can have as many tokens as you want... another example: 2x Hornet Queen possibly means 8x 1/1 deathtouch hornets OTB and 2x hornet queens also.

as for something like Portal/Godsend... you CREATE a token that is a COPY of the Exiled Card, say a penny. The word "Legendary" is copied too. you just got lazy and didn't write it on the penny!

Same out come will happen when Hard-Casting a card. If you Equip Godsend to your 1st Rat on the battlefield, say, and play a 2nd Godsend OTB to your side, choose one and the other is sent to the Graveyard. (I think keep the Equip'ed one in this case).

But Legendary rules were changed and you AND YOUR opponent can both now have, Say a Godsend, on BOTH sides of the field.

As for planeswalkers; same as Legendary rules; two on your side and keep only one, of your choice. BUT, Chandra, Pyrogenius is the same as Chandra, Pyromaster ... Legendary or Planeswalker on the middle line of Card Identification..... Planeswalker - Chandra... they both cannot be on the Battlefield at the same time, Or the "Legendary Rule" applies...

hopefully that helps. cheers
