Building A Standard Deck

Deck Help forum

I need help on choosing a build for Standard. I don't know what usually helps you win, but I would like to know.

I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to standard but..

What kind of budget are you working with?

I see you use blue in all of your commander decks so probably something with blue in it? There's Mono Blue aggro using Master of Waves and a bunch of blue weenies. There's a new U/R artifact build floating around that revolves around Ensoul Artifact that looks pretty fun.

If you like control then you can go U/W, W/U/B, or mono black.

Or just brew something up, take it to FNM and see what works and what doesn't.

Good luck!

it kinda depends on what you like, could you describe what kind of deck you like to run. Maybe somebody can suggest a standard deck that is similar to something you like

Looking at your profile I see a burn deck and an elf deck.

There is a burn deck in standard right now, and I think there will be a mono red burn/artifact deck post rotation. Also, mono green ramp/devotion will still be strong after rotation in 2,5 months.

If you want something very inexpensive that can hold it's own against the top decks there are a number of mono colored aggro decks in standard right now.

The two I'm playing are mono red Boss Sligh and my own brew Mono Blue Tempo:

This is the one I would recommend to someone trying to start standard with. It's flexible and strong while allowing you to put your own stamp on it. It's also very rotation proof in that almost everything is cards that will not be rotating and the cards that do rotate have replacement options that will still be in standard.Best part about it, I bought the entire deck the week that M15 dropped and it cost me around 28$ at my local store.

I was thinking about using Jalira and Master of Predicaments and white soldiers, if I can get more white 2015 stuff.

It seems like you want to play an Azorius tokens deck. I'll tell you some great cards to add, then I have a few questions:

Swan Song - awesome counter spell to board wipes/fatties and counter other counterspells, and the bird token is barely a drawback. If you would rather they didn't have the bird, then play Dissolve or Dissipate

Temple of Enlightenment - if you play Jalira, it helps to have a sense of what is coming up, and scrylands can really help. Dissolve and Voyage's End can help out too.

Thassa, God of the Sea - more scry. She's also only a three-drop and can throw off your opponent with Master of Predicaments.

Ephara, God of the Polis - nice if you have lots of creature spells.

Raise the Alarm - this should go without saying.

Battlefield Thaumaturge + Launch the Fleet - Get two soldiers out for W, three out for 1W, four out for 2W, and so on.

Now I have some questions:

  1. Do you want to play aggro, midrange or control? You can go either way with a B/W tokens deck, though a lot of people play control.

  2. Are you trying to make this deck post-rotation?

  3. What fatties are you looking at?

  1. Midrange.

  2. I'll probably not be able to make this deck because I don't have the cards or a method to get them.

  3. As per 2.

I need to stick to an idea, a good one. I'll post again when I have something solid or if I can somehow work this deck in.

I've come up with something, a whole new idea. Blue/Red aggro deck with the instant Frog 1/1 spells to reduce creatures to mush and then use burn to finish them off.
