A while ago, I made this cycle of planeswalkers...

Veran, Mystic of the Forest

Planeswalker - Veran

+1 : Put 2 1/1 green Saproling tokens with "Sacrifice this creature: Proliferate." into play.

-2 : Tokens you control get +3/+1 until end of turn.

-10 : You get an emblem with "Tokens you control get +2/+2 and gain first strike, vigilance, reach, trample, lifelink, haste, hexproof, ": Counter target spell," and ": Put a +1/+1 counter onto each creature you control." and are indestructible.

2

Veran, Mystic of Fire

Planeswalker - Veran

+1 : Deal one damage to each creature and player.

-2 : Until end of turn, whenever a source you control deals damage, put loyalty counters onto this planeswalker equal to the amount of damage dealt.

-10 : Deal 100 damage divided evenly among each creature, player, and planeswalker.

2

Veran, Mystic of Light

Planeswalker - Veran

+1 : Put a light counter onto each permanent you control.

-2 : Exile target creature with no light counters.

-10 : Destroy all nonland permanents without light counters on them. Replace all light counters on creatures with +1/+1 counters. Replace all light counters on artifacts with charge counters. Replace all light counters on planeswalkers with loyalty counters. Remove all other light counters from play.

2

Veran, Mystic of Darkness

Planeswalker - Veran

+1 : Exile target noninstant, nonsorcery card from a graveyard.

-2 : Put -1/-1 counters onto target creature equal to the number of creature cards in all graveyards.

-10 : Put each permanent exiled with Veran into play, then put X token copies of each permanent put into play this way into play, where X is the number of Swamps you control. Your life total becomes equal to the number of permanents you control.

2

Veran, Mystic of Time

Planeswalker - Veran

+1 : Draw seven cards, then discard seven cards, then put the top seven cards of your library into your graveyard.

-2 : Shuffle your graveyard into your library, then discard your hand.

-10 : Take extra turns equal to the number of cards in your library. Each of your opponents gains an emblem with "You can lose only from having 0 or less life. On each end step, gain 5 life."

2

...followed by these artifacts...

Veran's Machine

Artifact

The planeswalker uniqueness rule does not apply to Veran planewalkers.

: Add X mana of any combination of colors to your mana pool. Spend this mana only on Veran planeswalker spells.

Veran's Scepter

Artifact - Equipment

Equipped creature gets ": Search your library for a Veran planeswalker card and put it into your hand." and "Sacrifice Veran's Scepter: Put a Veran planeswalker card onto the battlefield from your hand.

...and this sorcery.

Veran Conflux

Sorcery

Multikicker

Search your library for a card name "Veran's Machine" and put it onto the battlefield. Then, for each time Veran Conflux was kicked, search your library for a Veran planeswalker card and put it onto the battlefield. Shuffle your library.

Any thoughts, templating issues, power level issues?

All of these cards are insanely busted. Except for Veran Conflux because of the Planeswalker Uniqueness Rule, you can only control one planeswalker of each subtype. That's why you can't have both Jace Beleren and Jace, the Mind Sculptor in play at the same time. And even with Veran's Machine, that's way too many hoops to jump through.

the entire cycle is interesting but here's some random thoughts.

veran's machine is way overcosted, with that mana you could drop a kozilek. It should cost 5 at most.

veran's conflux should cost 1 mana of every color (with a cmc of 5) and have a kicker of 2.

the green veran is broken, it should cost at least 7 with its +1.

the blue veran would be a vintage staple if it was printed, its +1 is almost strong enough to be an ult.

all of their ults read "win the game".

Conflux tutors up Machine straight to the field.

read veran's machine, which conflux fetches

wakawakawaka - That still doesn't mean that the planeswalkers aren't busted.

I gotta agree with JWiley129 here. Hell, the Green one with Parallel Lives, Doubling Season, or Primal Vigor just automatically makes any number of tokens you want and has an infinite number of EtB and death triggers.

ItchiUchiha117 - First I assumed that it was a typo when the Saprolings said "Proliferate" and I thought he meant "Populate". But now I'm not sure. Also each of them do something out of color pie, which is a big no-no.

Oh yeah, that does say Proliferate. Okay, not quite as busted, but still plenty busted. Doubling Season does still basically win the game with it, though.

if they said populate, its +1 would read infinite etb/leave the battelfield triggers which would be absurd. (sac the first one populate the second any number of times).

with that said the green one's +1 is basically a stronger verson of Elspeth, Sun's Champion's +1 at 1 mana less in a color better suited for proliferation.

...I don't even know where to start here...

You need to start from scratch, especially on those ultimates. Each of these cards do way too much.

I didn't realize that these planeswalkers could be that broken. I apologize for my failure at designing planeswalkers. Maybe I should stick to enchantments in the future.

July 27, 2015 5:26 p.m.

It's alright, expanding into unknown territory is how we grow, after all. Starting over might be your best option on these, though. Try and design a Planeswalker that is closer in power level to maybe Garruk Wildspeaker to begin with, for instance.

Don't take it too hard yo, we all start somewhere and wanna do something awesome. These could be better severed outside of a constructed format.

the cycle has some interesting design but their effects are a little over the top.

All I could do was laugh at how absurdly broken these ultimates were. LOL

  • Put each permanent exiled with Veran into play... (okay, I suppose so)
  • ... then put X token copies of each permanent put into play this way into play, where X is the number of Swamps you control... (Holy fu** WHAT???? "Ha bitch. Got your Thragtusk, and I control 8 swamps, so I get nine of them in total, so I gain 45 life. I also got nine of each of these other seven cards.")
  • ... Your life total becomes equal to the number of permanents you control. (This card definitely wasn't good enough yet. You also need 100+ life to not get blown the fuck out by the red one's ultimate: the coordinated destructive fiery fury whose limitless power surpasses the strength of the insurmountable god of the Eldrazi -- Emrakul, the Aeons Torn by a jaw-dropping degree of OVER SIX-FOLD.)

When I finished reading that ultimate, I was treated to a lovely +1 ability from the blue planeswalker that had me nearly spitting out my drink.
