Azor's Gateway Viability

So ever since I saw Azor's Gateway  Flip I wanted to open that darn door and abuse the power beyond it.

My question is do you think, aside from untap mechanics, is the card worth putting into a deck for Commander or would it be too hard to flip?

I'd love to make it flip and use it all on an X spell or activate, but I'm not quite sure it would ever last long enough to abuse.

If you are in red or white, it is still a loot engine.

Very true. I guess I am focusing on just the outcome rather than the draws. I'm just focused on pumping that mana greedily into Jenara, Asura of War haha.

The potential here is high, but I think this way too slow to flip. The looting is what should make you decide, not the flipside. I won't be putting it in before a Caged Sun.

Are you in a deck that can use lots of mana and likes looting? Bonus points for the deck being able to gain life.

Still, it's worth noting that if you tune the deck enough, this card will no longer cut it. It's fine to run in your average group if your deck wants these things.

I'd plan to run it in a budget group, under 100 for a deck, so maybe I should consider its price weight as well. I could always run it for awhile and if it doesn't make any good plays then just cut it.

It's currently way too expensive for its power level in EDH

In a deck that wants to loot or one where you untap artifacts, say with Unwinding Clock, it should be a solid choice.

Magus of the Candelabra and flipside seem a good way to make infinte mana.

A Kurkesh, Onakke Ancient deck seems like it could run it. I really don't see any other commanders being able to make decent use out of it.

I would see it best being used in a deck where youre already regularly raising your life and in need of both ramp/card draw. So maybe RW?
