DECK OF VICTORY Deck-Building Challenge (Prize/Tournament)

Challenges and Articles forum

I'm back with another deck-building challenge that will yet again include a prize and a tournament!

So my challenge for all of you is to make a Human Soldier tribal deck to conquer your enemies! The rules are as follows:

  1. Your deck most have a creature-base of ONLY creatures with the creature subtype - Human Soldier. It is a Human Soldier tribal deck challenge, after all.

  2. Must be in the Modern format, which includes Khans of Tarkir.

  3. 60 card deck limit, sideboards are allowed with a maximum of 15 cards.

  4. As for cost, I'd try to keep the deck under $200 for TCGplayer low. To put things into perspective, I don't mind having an awesome landbase and being able to include room to add flavorful rares/mythic rares, but I'm not up for decks stuffed full of cards like Cryptic Command , Thoughtseize , etc. just for the sake of being good.

The reason I say this, is because after you all submit your decks, there will be 3 winners.

  • Winner of the double-elimination tournament that will be posted on Challonge. On the last day I will play all of your decks to the best of my ability, then post the results. (I've been playtesting my own decks for a long time, so don't worry I will be very fair).

  • Winner for the most thematic/creative deck. This would include military themed cards that would fit flavorfully in a Human Soldier deck.

  • Winner for the most obscure deck strategy. While remaining true to the rules of the challenge, this winner would bring the most out-of-the-box perspective to the Human Soldier deck.

Each winner will receive a gift code for one free game to redeem on Steam. This will be provided via link and instructions will be posted on the wall of each of the winners of the challenge.

Also if you have any questions, feel free to post in the comments and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you have one week. (Until 11:59pm on 09/30/14)

A control-infinite Combo spin on the human soldiers theme. Tried to stay as close to the theme as possible whilst being competitive.

Wow... those finals games must have been packed with wraths. If you don't mind me asking, what likely helped out the Tenth Precinct over Soulja Boy in the matchup?

Congrats to all the winners. This was another fun challenge!

The matchup between The Tenth Precinct and Soulja Boy was rediculously close.

Basically since there was so much control and board wipe coming from both sides, Gideon Jura and Celestial Colonnade were really the only damage dealers for Soulja Boy, while similarily on the other side the main damage dealer for The Tenth Precinct was the Azorius Keyrune .

It seems strange but that is because all of the control and board wipe for both sides were for the most part, sorceries. Those cards could only be removed with instants before they turned back into their original card type.

However, the game changing card that gave The Tenth Precinct the win was without a doubt Darksteel Plate . It was the only answer to the board wipe and control and kept creatures like Captain of the Watch alive and kicking.

I must add, it was quite unfortunate in the last game that Soulja Boy had not pulled a Path to Exile in time to deal with the Captain of the Watch equipped with Darksteel Plate and enchanted with Righteous Authority . Otherwise it would've been a closer game.
