Hmm...

Scab-Clan Giant is a nice big creature, and the fight could usually be swayed in our favor. However, I'm still not a fan of the fight, as it could potentially make him a dead card.

Battering Krasis is a solid three-drop with good staying power. He is, however, somewhat weaker than average when he first enters the battlefield.

Pilfered Plans is pure card advantage, but the milling part might as well not exist if we don't have other mill cards with it. That being said, it is almost strictly better than say, Divination.

I'm going to vote for Battering Krasis for now, but I'm curious to here what the rest of you say.

I'm voting for Scab-Clan Giant - this is the kind of powerful Gruul card I've been hoping to see. This and the Punish the Enemy last pick suggest Red (and Green / Red) is open. And going three color Jund works well with our picks.

I really like Pilfered Plans as card advantage. In draft formats, card advantage is everything. It would set us up for a BUG deck, which I'd be very happy with. So my vote is going to be for Pilfered Plans. I can see the logic behind Scab-Clan Giant, but I just don't think it's that great of a card. It's a six-drop, so it's reasonable to assume that your opponent could already have a creature with a toughness higher than 4, that would either kill our giant or, at best, cause a trade. In which case we had just cast a six mana removal spell.

yeah i think we should be heading in bug direction rather than jund since i think there are betterbug cards in dgm than jund cards. So either pilfered plans or the krasis to remain consistently in green.

Well. This is an interesting pick. We do definitely have some options. My problem with the Giant is that by the time we could have it out, there's going to be at least one opponent with a Maze Abomination sitting on the board, against which it would do nothing but die miserably. I think Jarrheadd has the right idea about him essentially being a 6-drop effect more often than not. On the other hand, part of me wants to take him so we've got a well-rounded assortment of cards going into pack 2. I'm still not 100% sold on a color trio just yet.

However, I do think we're in green and I do think we're in black. The Krasis is not a bad choice, at all. Takes a bit to get him on his feet, but depending on our picks that could work out. And, as was mentioned, Pilfered Plans is a better Divination, but we don't necessarily have blue yet. If we do pick it up and plan to use it, I think that would solidify us in BUG colors. As noted, there seem to be players leaving G/R open. I'd hate to pass up good stuff just yet just because we jumped on the BUGwagon without really anything super solid to ride it on. (That noted, though, we will not see such generosity in pack 2, simply because someone else has proabably already started taking what's going by.)

And moreover, we're pretty split. Anyone feel like a change in vote? I'll hold off until a bit later in the evening.

To be fair, Battering Krasis has a decent chance of wheeling. SO effectively my vote was a neutral vote.

I just don't know whether I want to go BUG or Jund... I'm usually a BUG player, but I'd really love to use our Carnage Gladiator. I guess I'd be okay with either path.

I vote for the Krasis. trample is under rated in limited. My second pick if not for the Krasis would be the cluestone.

TridenT says... #8

I dunno, Timekeeper. We're only seeing three cards out of this pack again, do you really think the Krasis will come all the way around? Somebody behind us has to be snapping up any green we're letting through. It's a decent enough creature someone will take it if we don't, I feel. But is it what we want? If we go Krasis, our options are still pretty open. If we take Pilfered Plans, I think that locks us into BUG pretty much. If we go with the Giant, it's a big swing towards Jund.

I am wholly devil's advocating, by the by. Just want to make sure we solidify on an option that is mostly if not totally agreeable.

I do also want to give time to see if we can hear from TheSeventhNinja, CyRRdaR, and/or CenturionRower.

Alright, well I think after all this my vote is for the Krasis, so that seems like it will be our pick tonight. I really hope Pilfered Plans wheels, but I don't think we'll see the Giant again realistically.

Wow! Signals are super clear now - Gruul and Selesnya are open. I vote Zhur-Taa Druid as an early accelerant and provider of reach. At this point we don't really get a choice of whether we're going Jund or BUG - Gruul is open, Simic / Dimir is not.

June 28, 2013 8:47 a.m.

Frostblade says... #13

I think either the Rubblebelt Maaka or Zhur-Taa Druid .

June 28, 2013 9:42 a.m.

NickyTwoShoes says... #14

Wow. Zhur-Taa Druid is the pick easily.

June 28, 2013 12:10 p.m.

Jarrheadd0 says... #15

As much as I'd like to force BUG, Jund does seem the way to go. I vote for the Zhur-Taa Druid .

June 28, 2013 1:35 p.m.

Frostblade says... #16

yeah, i really wish we would have chosen Unflinching Courage since we would have chosen the same cards and we could have picked up Bronzebeak Moa now but oh well its too late to go into selesnya. Yeah i agree Zhur-Taa Druid is best choice now.

June 28, 2013 3:46 p.m.

TridenT says... #17

Yeah, I know I mentioned Selesnya looked open a pick or two ago but man it would have been risky to abandon one, maybe two colors just because a single pack looked promising. Them's the breaks.

The real break here is that we're going to take this Zhur-Taa Druid and love the crap out of it, and here in a couple picks the team we're passing to is going to wonder why their RG stream dried up. Worse, if they're taking what we've been passing so far, then when rotation switches here in a pack they're going to give us nothing worthwhile.

But we will have pack 3. So it's to our advantage ultimately. Maybe pack 2 we can focus on the BG portion of our grabs and worry about RG/RB stuff in pack 3.

Now we just need Rakdos and Gruul fixing. C'monnnnn guildgates!

I agree with basically all of the above comments, lol. Overpowered mana dorks for the win!

TridenT says... #19

Seems pretty unanimous to me! So much so I already submitted our pick to Caley!

June 28, 2013 7:28 p.m.

hubatish says... #21

I'll vote for Weapon Surge since we already have a decent number of creatures. Otherwise Saruli Gatekeepers probably.

June 29, 2013 10:20 a.m.

NickyTwoShoes says... #22

I'm for either Weapon Surge or Murmuring Phantasm . WS because first strike is huge in limited and it's SO cheap to overload it. MP because it's a huge wall that can block most any ground units, all for 2 mana. It buys you at least a few more turns against fast decks. (DGM isn't fast but the principal still applies)

June 29, 2013 12:26 p.m.

TridenT says... #23

I like Murmuring Phantasm , as a card - but I feel like our previous pick is kinda pointing us down a different path. We wanted Weapon Surge earlier, and I see no reason to leave this one alone. Wishful thinking makes me want to believe the one we passed up earlier might wheel and we can have it too, but I doubt it.

June 29, 2013 5:02 p.m.

Frostblade says... #24

Don't get Murmuring Phantasm its only good turn 2 and doesn't kill anything. Weapon Surge or Saruli Gatekeepers are way better choices.

June 29, 2013 7:24 p.m.

TridenT says... #25

Well, that's sort-of-two for the Gatekeepers, and sort-of-three plus definitely one (myself) for Weapon Surge. Let's get definitive votes here so we can make a selection. Anybody for specifically NOT Weapon Surge ?
