THE GAMEPLAY
Fortune Thief
+
Stuffy Doll
+
Volcano Hellion
is the key to win, everything else is unnecessary. The point is to get this combo as fast as possible.
If you're lucky, you can win in seven rounds, but eight to ten are more likely.
HOW IT WORKS
First of all you need mana and much additional draw possibilities. Therefore you have Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse, give you the mana needed (best: four mountains, two swamps) and reduce your remaining deck. In addition you have cards with (basic land)cycling which give you even more mana (
Fiery Fall
) or let you draw an additional card (e.g.
Fade from Memory
. If necessary you can cast these spells too.
Ichor Slick
or
Lay Waste
can help you both ways.
Don't forget to set up a light defense with
AEther Membrane
if possible.
The next way to get our cards of desire is transmute! Brainspoil for Stuffy Doll and/or Fortune Thief and Dimir House Guard for Volcano Hellion.
You can start the combo if you have all three cards (Fortune Thief
+
Stuffy Doll
+
Volcano Hellion
) in your hand.
TIPP: You can cast Fortune Thief as a morphed creature as soon as possible. This can help you a lot by giving you a (weak) blocker and reduce the rounds needed to win by 1.
First play Stuffy Doll and choose a player. Hopefully you have six mana (at least 4 mointains). Face Fortune Thief up: now you can't lose the game by damage. Time for Volcano Hellion. Define X as 10.000 and choose Stuffy Doll = you win.
VARIATIONS
1.>> You can kick out
AEther Membrane
and put some cycling-cards in.
2.>> Cast Fortune Thief as soon as possibly faced up. You can't lose the game anymore by damage - best defense ever, no matter how strong the opponents creatures are. But beware: Fortune Thief is now more likely to be destroyed.
WEAKNESS
1.>> The first big weakness are control- and counterdecks. You need your combo. On the other hand these decks are weak on creatures, so you might have a chance... or add some counterspells, too.
2.>> Fast decks with big damage. But they have to be very fast, because you cast Fortune Thief faced up in round 4 - when you're lucky. If they aren't this fast, hope they don't have...
3.>> ...destroy spells. Self-explaining, huh? But the only target can be Fortune Thief, so maybe you can put some counter spells or hexproof enchanments in.
4.>> Even worse than destroy spells are... exile spells. Self-eplaining, too, huuuhh? Stuffy Doll becomes a target for them, not only Fortune Thief...
REMEBER
Build your mana base and get rid of unnecessary cards in deck with cycling and searching your library library for basic lands.
Set up your defense but with lesser priority.
Cast Fortune Thief as morphed creature as soon as possible or as a faced-up creature as defense. It depends on the situation.
If you have all you need, cast Stuffy Doll. Next round cast Fortune Thief or face it up, if it isn't already. Than play your finisher: Volcano Hellion.
MULTIPLAYER
Playing a multiplayer mode like FFA is much harder to win, with 5 or more opponents nearly impossible (because you only have 4 combos - you can't change Stuffy Dolls target). Theoretically you can win in 9, 11 or 13 rounds (2, 3, 4 opponents), but only if nobody uses your decks weakness and you can cast a combo for each opponent.
