moving enchantments

Asked by jesuslovedhumor 11 years ago

If I control Autumn-Tail, Kitsune Sage flipped to Kitsune Mystic I can move a enchant creature spell from one creature to another that has hex proof or shroud because no where in the Mystic's text does it say target, correct? Also if I have a control enchanted creature spell on a creature and decide to sacrifice it, can I declare that creature is the sacrifice and in response activate the Mystic's ability to move the enchantment so it does not die?

You can definitely move it to a Hexproof creature. I'm not 100% on the Shroud part.

shroud is a no go afaik.

702.16a Shroud is a static ability. "Shroud" means "This permanent or player can't be the target of spells or abilities."

The difference between hexproof and shroud is hexproof states "spells or abilities your opponent controls"

You are indeed able to get around Shroud and Hexproof when it comes to moving the enchantment as it does not require you, specifically, to specify a target for the enchantment to be moved to, and, once on, an enchantment does not normally target anything by being attached to a creature.

When it comes to the sacrifice choice, if the sacrifice is part of the cost of the effect you will need to move the enchantment before you pay said cost or else the creature (and the enchantment on it) will have gone to your graveyard before you get a chance to activate the Kitsune's ability.

An aura only targets when it is cast, so I would assume that you can move an aura from one creature to another creature with hexproof/shroud because, like you said, "target" is not used in Autumn-Tail, Kitsune Sage 's ability.

You can never respond to the payment of casting a spell, whether it be sacrificing a permanent or tapping for mana. So, if the creature sacrifice is part of the cost of an effect, like Altar's Reap or Bloodthrone Vampire , it is too late to move the enchantment, so you would have to move it before paying the cost. However, if a spell causes you to sacrifice a creature, like Barter in Blood , you could respond to the casting of the spell by moving the enchantment.

Yes you can move it to a creature with shroud, enchantments (auras) only "target" when they are on the stack, and seeing as it is not on the stack, it doesn't target and can therefore be moved onto any legal target.

To reinforce what others have said regarding shroud/hexproof: an Aura enchantment only has a target when it's being cast as a spell, and Rune-Tail's ability only targets the enchantment, not either of the creatures. Moving the enchantment to or from a creature with shroud or hexproof is just fine.

About the sacrifice question: You're either sacrificing the creature to pay a cost or as part of the resolving effect of a spell or ability. The payment of costs can't be interrupted, and a resolving spell/ability has to completely finish resolving before anyone gets a chance to take any more actions. Let's say you have a Bear Cub enchanted with Mind Control and you want to cast Altar's Reap . If you cast Reap and choose to sacrifice the Cub for the additional cost, the Aura will already be in the graveyard by the time you get another chance to do something. If you activate Rune-Tail to move Mind Control before casting Reap, then you won't control the Cub at the time you have to pay the costs for Reap (and you won't be able to sacrifice it).

When Sun Titan was standard, people would use it with Dead Weight to kill an opponent's Geist of Saint Traft .

...

Although, if you have a Sun Titan , what are they going to do with a Geist?

zandl: Vapor Snag your Titan, beat you in the air with a 4/4 angel, then leave up mana to Mana Leak your Titan when you try to recast it.
