Do shock lands count as their basic land types?

Hello, I've never really given much thought to shock lands when I've played before, mostly because I thought the only difference between them and a quild gate was that you could pay life to access it straight away. However, recently it was pointed out that this may act in a different fashion. So I was wondering how each of the following scenarios would resolve and if it was legal:
1) I play an Evolving Wilds , now can I go grab a Breeding Pool as the land?
2) What if Evolving Wilds was instead something like Nature's Lore , is the Breeding Pool fair game?
3) I have 4 Forest s and 1 Breeding Pool , and my opponent only has Mountain s. I have a Traproot Kami in play, is its toughness equal to 4 or 5?
no., Evolving Wilds states 'basic land' ... Breeding Pool is not a basic land.
yes, Breeding Pool is a forest ( and valid for Farseek because it is an island also)
5 as above Breeding Pool is a forest.
Basically, when a card says 'basic land' it means a basic land, Forest , Swamp , Island , Plains and Mountain ; Not any card that has a type with that. When it says 'forest' or 'island' it means cards with that type. A bit confusing, but this is the general rule.

gufymike Just a quick addition, Basic land can mean also any of the Basic Snow lands.

1) No, because Evolving Wilds specifically says "basic land". Breeding Pool doesn't have the Basic supertype (example: Island , Forest ).
2) Yes. Nature's Lore just says "Forest card", and Breeding Pool has the Forest land type.
3) 5, because you control a total of 5 Forests. Effects like this only care about names if they specifically say "cards named NN". Otherwise they're based on types/subtypes, like in this case.
