'Commenting on these will sometimes award a feature token' Really?

Ok, has anyone ever actually gotten a free feature token by posting help on a 'first cycle' deck?

I'm the 2nd ranked helper on the entire site after regressing into the 100's after slowly climbing to 1st early last year... Needless to say, I've done a lot of posts on a 'first cycle' deck but have never gotten a feature token.

Yeah, I've done enough to wonder if I ever will get one.

I want to say I got one a while back, but it has been quite a while, so I could certainly just be imagining things

Not to downplay your plight Inkmoth, but 876 good card suggestions on my end compared to your 3. I'm really really starting to call bullshit on the free feature token.

Find a better way to award these people... I feel like an underappreciated but valuable contributor to this community.

I.e. award them for reaching specific tapped out and helper ranks to award your active community. An ongoing example would reset this on their anniversary mark and auto award all previous tokens if you already hold the needed rank. Boom, community appreciation achieved!

Lol Hey, it's not my fault some people prefer Cancel over Swan Song .

Yeah Last_Laugh, I agree. It shouldn't just be some random thing. The more helpful and involved you are in the community, the more rewards you should get

There was a "welcome to tappedout" meme just for this occassion, but I cannot find it.

I haven't had feature tokens since the three I got from upgrading.... but I have been suggesting/commenting on first cycles trying to get a feature token but it hasn't happened...

But earlier this week one of my decks was featured out of nowhere... no new comment/upvote on it or anything but I saw it as a featured deck... Not sure if someone featured my deck for me or what.

Beginning to wonder myself about this. I try daily to win the prize but no dice lol.

I am so sorry, I thought that I had removed this message a while back. I had implemented this feature but I realized that my initial idea was very open to being exploited.

It is still something that I want to implement and perhaps mixing in something like comment #4 could make it easier to maintain on our end, but also ensure that we aren't encouraging people to leave un-quality comments, which sadly, this kind of feature encourages.

Also, was it this one?

Complimentary tokens all around!

Kidding... maybe... ish... lol

Still a good idea I think, just requires a way it can't be exploited. The best way would be by review but that would probably take alot of dedication. Can just imagine the amount of comments that flow through here daily. Next would be some sort of randomized code that also tracks word count or # of card suggestions in the comment (if it's possible, I have no clue of these things). Or change the slot number on the list daily, and first come first serve... with the above mentioned tracking stuff so it cant be exploited with just saying Hi on a deck page.

Maybe it's more complicated than it sounds, I'm no coder. Maybe it helps, maybe it doesn't, just my 2 cents.

@yeaGO - It seems that the helper rank is based off quality posts and accepted card suggestions whereas the tapped out rank is just posts in general, correct?

If you implement something like my suggestion in post# 4 (and I'm correct in my above paragraph), I'd reward them more for the helper rank and use more of a checklist that resets annually. I.e. once a token is awarded for rank 25 in a year then that one can't be earned again until that yearly reset happens (even if you regress then climb to that rank again). This prevents people from bouncing back and forth on ranks and hoarding tokens, ensures any given account only has access to X free tokens in a year, and rewards quality help.

yeah... i will do another round of thinking on this with this feedback in mind and try to come up with something that is doable / sustainable / relatively fair. One caveat is that in any reality i did kinda foresee this as being a relatively obscure accoutrement to helping, not necessarily some highly reliable dividend.

Last_Laugh says... #14

Fair, I understand people purchase the things and that supports the community in its' own way and that too many tokens defeats the purpose of more exposure. 7 possible in a year or something. Ranks 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Ranks 1-5 don't change as much so the quantity handed out stays reasonable and the other 2 are more common and more realistic but shouldn't amount to anything crazy.

man i love yeaGO always has time for a good laugh. i knew the feature didnt work. ive been here on a few accounts since 2012.

dont know how to fix this as alot of things are easily exploitable, and tho ive never been able to afford member upgrade myself i do think feature tokens are quite a big reward to possibly be abused. maybe something like, half a feature token? one that lasts slightly less time.

Inkmoth it should be easy to see why Cancel is preferable to Swan Song .

PlatinumOne says... #17

i don't think the acquisition of tokens should be even remotely linked to a users rank. idk how rank is even raised to begin with, because no matter how much i try to help people here, i'm still sitting at "deckling". heck idk if "deckling" and "rank" are even the same thing or how to find out what my rank is if they're not. and of course its always possible that the skilled players will be low rank while unskilled players are high rank, simply due to how other users of this site perceive the help their given, the other users, or how they view the game in general.

Inkmoth says... #18

You can change it at your settings, I only found out about a month ago lol. You earn the ability to do so though.

pskinn01 says... #19

PlatinumOne: your rank is on your home page, below the decks. Currently looks like you are Rank #4, helper rank #122.

If you have upgraded your account and are ranked in top 100, you can change your "deckling" to whatever you want it to be, within reason and character limits.

PlatinumOne says... #20

pskinn01: thanks man. so rank and helper rank aren't the same thing? whats rank mean? is 4 good or bad?

April 17, 2019 1:21 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #21

PlatinumOne: Rank is the amount of activity you have around the site. The more active you are and the more you contribute to the community gives you a higher rank.

Helper rank is specifically helping others for their decks/cubes etc.

The lower your rank number the better. You can see the top rankers here.

PlatinumOne says... #22

Femme_Fatale: you say the more you contribute, the higher your rank, but then you say lower is better. thats confusing.

Boza says... #23

Thanks for finding the meme. Personally, I think it is great that the system does not award FT - it makes it so people are actually saying to themselves "hey, I might as well contribute", but without seeing a tangible reward, they are naturally discouraged spam comments on decks. Deceitful, but works well me thinks.

I do not the best way to fix the system, but now that we have likes for comments (which are fairly rarely used too), perhaps this could be a metric as well? If you post a comment on a deck and it gets a like from the deck owner, you have a say 20% chance to get a feature token.

April 17, 2019 3:58 a.m.

pskinn01 says... #24

PlatinumOne: number one is the highest rank. Which means you are the 4th most active member.

April 17, 2019 6:50 a.m.

Last_Laugh says... #25

@Boza - That's why I suggested going off the helper rank. You can suggest 1 million dumb cards but unless the creator of that deck accepts those suggestions it doesn't raise your rank, thus ensuring more quality posts rather than just quantity.

Caerwyn says... #26

I am not sure how helper rank is calculated, but it's pretty clear there is more than just good card suggestions at play--after all, there are plenty of people who are rated higher than those with more good card suggestions. Helper rank does not appear to as easy to manipulate as the overall TappedOut rank (periodically the top 10 has users who troll their way to the top or who were only active on their own decks), but that doesn't mean people will not figure out how to game the system if there were some form of tangible reward.

At the risk of voicing an unpopular opinion, I do not think TappedOut needs an incentive program. TappedOut's a bastion of civility in the oft-uncivilized internet, full of people who engage in discussions and help one another simply out of a love for the game. I would be fairly skeptical of any program that might encourage users to change their behavior and deviate from the current system that seems to be working so well.

Last_Laugh says... #27

@cdkime - It seems to be factored off of how many good card suggestions in a given timeframe (3-6 months if I had to venture a guess). These good card suggestions seem to drop off eventually (as far as rank is concerned, not the total) and I've both climbed in rank and lost rank because of it without any current activity on my end.

It seems to pretty accurately reflect recent top helpers. This is nice because people can ask for and typically get help from a currently active member by posting on that user's wall. A decent amount of people look at the list FemmeFatale posted a link to (post #21) and take the time to ask for help.

PlatinumOne: sorry, should have said "the more your contribute, the better your rank" or "the more progression up the ladder you obtain" etc. If you take a look at the community page for an example, the people who appear the most around the site are on the top of the list. The number, is in effect, your position relative to everyone else on the site. You are in 4th place.
