Tidespout Tyrant in reanimator?

Legacy forum

I've added it to my reanimator deck before on tappedout, and people have told me it's not any good.

But then I watch SCG videos and a lot of the reanimator decks are running Tidespout Tyrant...why?

Seems fine theres probly better stuff but its a fine edition could be some kind of meta call

I know it was a historical choice in older Reanimator lists, but it might be a metagame call. I don't know much about Legacy, but I imagine bouncing their lands on turn 3-4 would be pretty good.

Think of it as the perfect hate card, it answers all permanents. Storm brings in Chain of Vapor to deal with hate for 1 turn, obviously if it sticks in reanimator you have better.

Well to start it bounces lands so you get a huge tempo boost. He synergizes well with force of will and low cmc stuff in your deck and lotus petal. Also he is great to deal with cards boarded in against you provided you get him on the field.

Has simply very versatile and wrecks fair decks. Hes not the all star like Grisslybud or Iona in terms of immediate wins. But he does serious work.

It's an alright card to have as a single in legacy reanimator as it acts as decent bounce material when it sticks all though it is usually more of a meta call as that spot could just as easily be taken by a second/third Griselbrand, an Iona, Shield of Emeria, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Grave Titan, Ashen Rider, Sphinx of the Steel Wind, etc. The thing about legacy reanimator is that there are plenty of great targets to reanimate so it really tends to come down to a meta call and personal preferences with the deck.

I think it matches poorly against Young Pyromancer, but at least it's giving you a solid blocker for those situations.

I think the consensus is that if you're expecting lots of weenie rush decks like Delver & Young Pyromancer or Maverick you should probably cut Tidespout Tyrant for a card good against it, like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.

At worst he's a 5/5 flier, and that's pretty good.

Reanimator runs 2-3 Grislebrand and then a grab bag of singletons typically. Norn, Iona, grave titan and tyrant being staples. Against decks with young peezy they just entomb for Norn and move on. Tyrant is great against stone blade and delver decks that run a single or maybe 2 threats at a time.

Reanimator also usually sideboards the show and tell package and he is good to drop against a lot of unfair match ups since he can bounce emrakul and all sideboard cards

Because of sequences like - Reanimate Tidespout Tyrant. Cast Thoughtseize. Trigger Tidespout Tyrant. Resolve the stack and bounce Ensnaring Bridge. Resolve Thoughtseize forcing them to discard Ensnaring Bridge.

So Tidespout Tyrant is a catchall for hate permanents, but its extremely weak in the main deck. A 5\5 flyer is not what you want to reanimate.
