Give me combos, decklists, anything. I want to know why this card is supposed to be good

What are the chances that you'll deck yourself before the opponent, if you're playing mill. This is a simple pressure card.

Its also a great finisher...I wondered the same thing until someone finished milling my deck for two mana.

In EDH, Mesmeric Orb works since it mills everyone over and over again. I play The Mimeoplasm in my deck Mimeoplasm, the Deck Eater, and the orb gives me a lot more options by the time I have five mana.
The trick with Mesmeric Orb is that you shouldn't care about being milled. Either you want to be milled so that you can use your graveyard, or you have enough mill that you can kill your opponent before it kills you. It also forces your opponent to think. "Should I counter this spell that mills me for 7, when tapping the mana to counter mills me for 3 and I lose a counter spell?"

I agree, and I don't run the orb in my deck, Mill DH. But I try not to clutter my decks and have thus not included that much graveyard interaction. Especially as the odds of milling an Eldrazi and then being way behind on mill are distressingly high.
However, it is an awesome card in a deck that is graveyard happy like the aforementioned Mimeoplasm deck.

Mesmeric Orb really starts the mill clock and is in my opinion the best mill card in EDH/Commander. Not only is every player milling between 2 and 12 cards each turn, but it also prevents anyone from using library manipulation with leftover mana and also kills players using an infinite combo that involves untapping. If you have a mill deck, the very first card you should put in the deck is Mesmeric Orb , it's that simple.
If you are really worried about milling yourself, I'd suggest having Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and/or Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre . You don't have to worry about milling out with those guys in your deck.

The thing about Mesmeric Orb is that you aren't the one getting milled by your opponent. At the very most, you may lose up to 30 cards. How does losing even 30 cards affect you at all when you still have 10 left? However, your opponent, who will likely lose the same amount of cards if not more, loses 30 cards too, so in addition to your mill cards, they are probably dead.
Take into account that as a mill deck, you probably have less creatures that tap while non-mill decks usually have some larger board presence, Mesmeric Orb can win games.
Hope that makes sense.

Mill is an all or nothing strategy. It brings you no closer to winning the game until the last card is milled and the opponent has to draw. As the mill player you are attacking their library, while they are attacking your life total. Mesmeric Orb only takes cards from the library which gets you closer to your win condition but has no effect what so ever on theirs.

My friend has a Legacy build that uses Tangle Wire and Mesmeric Orb to aggro mill out a lot of players at once and to counteract the mill he runs Gaea's Blessing .

It did specifically ask. And I specifically wanted to know how it interacted with other cards. So I put it under card interactions. No need to be snotty about it. Thank you for putting me in the appropriate section though, I'm sorry for my confusion

That's actually very helpful guys. Here I thought I was simply missing a part of a combo or something. So it fits best in a sort of mill/control, where you're not as inclined to tap your own cards.. Hmm

You have to go through a filter page to ask a question in the Q&A. That page specifically states that the Q&A is for rules questions only. Moved.
