How Does Skithiryx, The Blight Dragon Fly?

I was looking at my Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon in its binder, trying to figure out a combo with Heartless Summoning and then it hit me - how does Skithiryx fly? I mean it has no wings, just the wing frame. Can anyone shed some insight?

I like to think of skithiryx as a dragon lich and he more levitates than flies. I have nothing to back this up, but that is my headcanon.

TypicalTimmy Yeah, I agree, it is impossible that a metallic, massive, winged object could fly.

Oh wait. Planes do exist.

(And they don't have the ability to flap their wings, so need to use engines to pull off similar feats.)

TypicalTimmy I was making a joke, but sure?

Anyway, why would they be 2 dozen tons? I assumed they were mostly hollow, or much lighter, protected by steel.

SynergyBuild a joke, yeah, but it was still rude and unnecessary. He specifically mentioned the same method of flying that planes use. Even as a joke, it was poor.

Yeah it seemed like you were just trying to be a jerk rather than just joke. Maybe if you were saying it in person the fact that it was a joke could have been conveyed, but online it can sometimes be difficult to convey intents because much of language in person is also inflection and tone of voice as well as body language.

Daveslab2022 he did not mention the method of flying that planes use.

Combustion was the only thing he mentioned with it, that has any bearing in regards to a plane. While jet engines use combustion to some extent, that is a minor part compared to properly building lift with the wings, especially when the process is (Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I studied jet engines) intake, compression, combustion, exhaust.

Also, if you want to play joke-police, I couldn't care less.

GhostChieftain That is a fair point, in hindsight, I could have made it more obvious. I thought by overly emphasising the sarcasm it would be made clear that I was joking, but it clearly was misconveyed.

Lmfao! You can’t emphasize sarcasm in a comment.

Also, because he didn’t specifically talk about every part of a planes flight, he very obviously wasn’t talking about planes at all and your use of “sarcasm” was necessary? You’re just being nit-picky and honestly digging yourself a deeper hole.

Nobody is playing joke-police, just noticed a fellow user of the site being rude to another, very unjustly, and decided to comment on it.

He also never stated that Steel Hellkite couldn’t fly, just that he’s fucking heavy, and that makes it more difficult to fly. So your attempt to pass this off as a joke doesn’t work. You were being a dick, trying to be funny at someone else’s expense. Just own up to it. Stop being so damn prideful.

This is Magic: Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon , Steel Hellkite , and the other strange flying creatures probably just Plane-walk.

n0bunga Thanks for the essay on defending me, but seriously, GhostChieftain (to a minor extent), and Daveslab2022, can we not argue?

I made a sarcastic joke, okay? I am sorry, TypicalTimmy, I didn't want an 11 (count'em 12 including this one) comment tree detailing the intricacies of internet arguements and tells as yo what the tone of a comment is.

Now, can we stop sidetracking poor xSpicyMeat's post? It's getting annoying.

I know it is kinda getting laughed off, but the first comment is the closest to explaining Skittles flying as I think. I always assume magic (even if the setting is otherwise low magic and dragons also don't have other magic) is at foot for a dragon flying. I don't see how the forces could be generated to lift a dragon purely by flapping. As previously noted birds (and other flighted creatures) are not very dense/heavy. Additionally most of the musculature of flying creatures larger than insects is involved in the flapping of wings. With the common depiction of dragons being well muscled creatures that can fight with tail and claw and not just via dive bombing attacks, I think that some sort of instinctual magic accounts for most of their lift. Since Skithiryx is a skeleton, the added lift provided from the flapping seems unnecessary and he can probably fly via the magic alone and any wing movements purely habitual.

TypicalTimmy, if an airplane can fly, why not Steel Hellkite , as well?
