I'm getting $40 on Thursday, I just got done with a Khans fat pack and didn't pull much(Dragon-Style Twins , 2 Rakshasa Deathdealer , Crater's Claws , End Hostilities , Ugin's Nexus , Ghostfire Blade , Hooded Hydra , Defiant Strike [Foil], and Retribution of the Ancients ). For christmas I'm getting 2 Khans of Tarkir Booster Boxes. Does anyone know what set has the most value outside of khans? I'm looking forward to getting a fat pack.

Innistrad has some value cards Theros has value and older sets can have value, Khans does still have great value though. Also I think this thread should be moved so tagging Epochalyptik

Get one of the new commander decks. You get to try out a new format, get a cool new Planeswalker, and pick up some pretty nice eternal cards for a decent price. Fat packs aren't worth it if you're looking for value. They're nice to start off, if you need the land base, or to get the box, but really, even with the slightly better odds of pulling a money card over buying single boosters, not something that should be done as an investment.

Has that (better odds of chase cards) been confirmed, or is it mostly just speculation?

I dunno. I think just speculation. The point is, not worth it either way.

Just buy the singles for a deck you want. I'd suggest buying a modern deck, because the cards will retain value, and you can keep the same deck forever.

Best I ever did in a fat pack was break even with an Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and 2 Temple of Malady . I have been buying them since AVR so I am pretty sold that they are not the way to go. I agree to save your money or just purchase what you actually want right now. One of the new Commander 2014 decks is a good suggestion as well.

I've never done poorly on a fatpack, and fatpacks are the best chance you'll get doubles of any given mythic. each fatpack is packaged from two seperate printings so half your packs will be from one printing and the other half from a different printing.
The others here have the right idea though but i'll take it one step further and be specific: Get the new RED commander deck. Even if you dont play commander you can basically just unpack it and file into your trade binder there is a lot of value there, I'd venture to say you'd get FAR more than the 35-40 bucks it will cost you.
Also: Christmas is too late to be getting 2 boxes of khans tbh Personally I'd get 1 box and look to something else like an FTV set, or just $120 gift certificate you can blow on singles/packs. I think you'll have a lot more fun that way too!

I never buy boxes 2 at a time, because there's always the chance that a box could suck as well, just like fatpacks and everything else that isnt a 'precon'. My reasoning is if both boxes suck, I'll be crushed, both mentally and financially.
For that reason I tend to stick with one box at a time. Its a double edged sword I suppose and no reward if no risk....But if you're a guy (like me) where you dont get money all that often to spend you wanna be somewhat smart with it and try to make it go as far as you can. :)

Honestly, i would just save your money.
Fat packs are sometimes good, sometimes bad.
