Crackling Control

Looking to build a deck that'll play like this:
t1:Thoughtseize
t2:Surgical Extraction
opponent scoops

I can pretty much promise the third step will never happen. Not only that but you would not have pulled ahead, unless you hit a 2nd in their hand.

I'm not so much looking for numerical card advantage as I am looking to combat the meta I'm seeing of decks that hinge around a single playset of cards. Perhaps Howling Mine and Temple Bell type effects would work for us both to find the right cards?

It does not work. Honestly whenever someone uses surgical extraction against me I just laugh. It's a complete waste. Even if they do it to lands. Meh, so what. It would be worse if it left them in but you couldn't use them, however it removes them so they don't even become dead draws. In a way it actually streamlines your deck for you. Great!

But the point is to pluck the win conditions from their hands... I mean, I understand it isn't strong against aggro, but combo/control decks would struggle, no? Take a look at what I have. Crackling Control

Name a deck with a single win condition. Name a deck with just two win conditions.

Nope.

Grap splinter twin they have kiki-jiki

Grab pestermite they have deceiver exarch.

Grab both and they'll just beat you in the face and bolt you.

Delver, jeskai combo, scapeshift, gifts, ect ect. Pretty much any combo for that matter(especially now pods dead).

Also, I dont think I would consider the odd bolt or pestermite to be a "win condition".

Twin is a deck that is perfectly happy to beat you in the face with fliers and take down your life total whilst still controlling the board. There is nothing wrong with that and they can win remarkable quickly when they're putting out 5 damage a turn at least.

Delver plays tons of different threats and burn.

Gifts also plays tron lands and various different threats.

Scapeshift would be screwed but you'd have to somehow grab a valakut which you can't do! Thoughtseize says NONLAND. They can win without the card scapeshift.

Jeskai combo doesn't exist anymore.

A twin deck without twin just resembles a delver deck. Small, irritating creatures backed up with burn and counterspells. So, yeah it is still a threat given that it's a deck that people actually play! Albeit twin rarely runs more than the play set of bolt (sometimes electrolyze).

I would be more interested in what the REST of the deck looks like besides just Surgical and Thoughtseize...as it does matter.

After hearing your concern, I'm thinking of shifting toward something that looks similar to a pox build with Crackling Doom because I love that card.

Sounds legit. You can slot surgical extraction into removal.deck quite nicely.

Thought Scour is great in decks like this because the 2 card mill can hit lands from their deck as well. Also for lands, you can use Ghost Quarter and then Surgical Extraction. I personally prefer Extirpate to surgical because of the split second.

Grixis Surgery is one list I've seen that can do this.
