Purphoros is in your car!

Hey folx,

So I missed the OG Theros. I know, I know...

But I have Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded and I enjoy the sneak attack mechanic built into the card. I'm curious if he works better, mono-style in the driver seat, or as a passenger for a Rakdos commander like Chainer, Nightmare Adept or Grenzo, Dungeon Warden?

Thoughts? And how would you build him?

Honestly its up to you. Although Grenzo, Dungeon Warden might not want him as much, I can tell you that.

I would personally add him in a rakdos deck. I really like rakdos and i think he can give you huge advantage in a chainer deck. Two colors are also more fun than one:)

I'm planning on getting a copy for my Feldon of the Third Path deck as soon as I can meet up with my buddy that pulled one. Bronze-Blooded sounds like it'll awesome in that deck. He gives Feldon haste and sends stuff to the graveyard to be reanimated later. All while being hard to remove and decently cheap.

dbpunk I like the idea of Purphoros tossing things in the graveyard when The Cauldron of Eternity is in play. 2R to toss something big in play, it dies, goes to the bottom of the library, and then 2 to pull it back out w/ Grenzo.

Dcku so... I love Chainer's ability but IDK about it only being activated once a turn (or twice w/ Illusionist's Bracers), and I really want a Chainer deck...

mn6334 I actually looked at Feldon as a commander w/ Purphoros! Feldon is great because the creatures aren't exiled for maximum recursion. It's definitely something to consider! Do you have the deck list on here?

Paeldroth I do have a list on TappedOut but it's not ready for public viewing. I'm at work right now but I'll look at getting something available when I get home.

There are also other ways to copy an ability like Strionic Resonator and other ways to ressurect thing in rakdos in order tow make the chainer deck perform well. I see how feldon migth be better but i personally believe that chainer is much more fun to play.

I also think these two decks tame different directions so we cannot compare them. Chainer is a fast discard ressurection deck when feldon is a cheap out big creature kind of deck. From this perspective it seams purpheros would go better eith the second one but i think he enables some big plqys and a lot of damage in the chainer deck too.

Dcku I may be misunderstanding Strionic Resonator but I don't see how it would copy Chainer, Nightmare Adept's recursion ability. I would see it for Illusionist's Bracers though.

TBH I've been super interested in Chainer since the pre-con came out so this is something to consider...

Yea, sorry my fault resonator only works with triggered abilities. Look black offers a lot of ways to ressurect by its own. But if you really eant to abuse his power i think you can also use something like a Necrotic Ooze. Not only it can help you deal with removal but you can also cast it after using your commanders ability and suck him to the legend rule or use him to ressurect sth else with a spell like Victimize or Blood for Bones. This is not the most efficient way but you can get multiple triggers of your ability.
