Play-Testing —Jan. 3, 2013
I've been play testing this deck against my friends who all play modern. This deck is awsome, it regularly stomps all over modern decks which should be much stronger. Still in the process of tweaking it though.
I was actually looking at Essence Harvest and thought it was a great card but for some reason i put Jarad in there... Now that i look at it Jarad is kind of useless. Im tempted to take green out completely but card:Jarad's Orders is still great cause i can get a Grimgrin, Corpse-Born on the field and put a Gravecrawler in my graveyard. Any ideas on a blue or black card that would do something similar? Also thanks for Dissipate and Artful Dodge

Interesting ideas! I have a similar deck that's Golgari and works awesome so far.

Yeah as soon as i saw this mechanic i thought it would be extreamly effective... and running blue/black helps alot because i can counter any spells that might be dangerous to my combo. Green/black sounds kinda interesting, but i would have to look into it more. I hope my deck works as well as your has been so far.

Here's my deck, if you wanted to take a look and see my take on the whole "sacrifice creatures to make life good" idea :D

Looks extremely interesting. Im liking the sac mechanic involved with Demonlord of Ashmouth and Desecration Demon , If grimgrin wasn't enough of a sac mechanic by himself id defiantly run these guys. what kinds of decks have you played against with this deck?

I played against a Selesnya token/lifegain (deck:army-of-life) deck and lost the first game then won the second game. The first game I didn't have a creature removal spell to deal with Trostani because I foolishly wasted them early in the game, so my girlfriend ended up going up to 50 life despite all the insane damage I was dealing her each turn with my Blood Artists and Desecration Demon and such. I haven't had much chance to play it against anyone else except in a previous form before I added the Blood Artist, but it stomped pretty hard against a Rakdos deck, a mono-red deck, and an Izzet deck.

Damn, from the sounds of it decks like this should work fairly well against most decks. Although it can be a delicate combo, i think being mostly zombies in my case and mostly undying in your case makes it a lot less delicate. Im excited to try this deck out, It will be complete in about a week, just need a couple more card:Geralf's Messenger's and Gravecrawler 's. Check out some of my other decks if your interested, i'm fairly new to mtg and always looking for feedback.

I've been debating throwing card:Geralf's Messenger into the mix in my deck, but that 3 black casting cost combined with the need for 2 green to cast Strangleroot Geist , plus the fact that he comes into play tapped kind of gives me pause, as part of my deck's mechanic is that it's meant to be played fast.
I tried out a Golgari zombie deck idea that I found on here a while back, but it was entirely dependent on dropping lots of little critters quickly and it had no defense from fliers, plus no late-game winning power, so I ended up re-jiggling it a bunch and thus was born Sac ALL THE THINGS! LoL

card:Geralf's Messenger having a 3 black cost is a little bit of a pain, but coming into play tapped really just means he cant block a creature for that first turn. To be honest you shouldn't worry about taking that damage you might be able to block because you will be consistently healing with blood artist. And that 2 damage mixed with his undying is crazy good. Also i'm not sure on this ruling but can a tapped creature not be sac'd? if that is the case i can see your apprehension.

Tapped creatures can definitely be sac'd. Mainly the reason Geralf isn't in there is cuz the bastard's expensive LoL

Okay, thats good to know. And 3 mana isn't that bad for a creature of his ability, but the fact that they are all black mana makes it feel like its expensive as hell.

The deck itself is interesting but Jarad is just being useless there if the idea is to sacrifice Grimgrin, Essence Harvest would do much better or even Artful Dodge since it would even fit with Secrets of the Dead and attacking with grimgrin only brings benefits to you.
and also Dissipate is better then Cancel since it exiles.
