FNM 3-1: The Cat. —March 10, 2017

I made severe changes at the last minute and went with an Energy build.

The Matches

  • 2-1 against Jeskai Crazy Cat Lady: I got game one on the back of Nahiri, the Harbinger I stole from him with Gonti, Lord of Luxury. The game went very long and was a slow grind. Game 2, he countered all my creatures and eventually won through the combo. Game 3, I managed to land threats and outrace him.

  • 2-0 against Mardu Refurbish. Game one was interesting, when he decided to trade my Sovereign, Consulat Flagship for his, only to refurbish his. I still managed to grind him out since he lacked the creatures to crew it, and thanks to Boob the Menace (Glint-Sleeve Siphoner). I finished that game at 2. I sided in Transgress the Mind, removal and Natural Obsolescence, the latter of which allowed me to "kill" his Combustible Gearhulk in a way that prvented it from returning.

  • 2-0 against Mardu Vehicles with Ballista. We both mulled game one and she was simply unable to outrace me, thanks to my card draw. I sided in Transgress the Mind, which took out her Fumigate game 2, giving me victory.

  • 2-1 against 4C Crazy Cat Lady. Game one went quickly: having an answer to his Elder Deep-Fiend and his summoning it during combat just lost him all tempo. Game 2 went well enough, since he was mana screwed, but he managed to delay the game long enough to play a couple of EDF. I managed to land a Pokedex (Lifecrafter's Bestiary) and gain card advantage, but he finally tapped all my things with an EDF on his side. I landed a 1/1 Walking Ballista to chump, but he topdecked removal. Game 3, I Transgressed a Baral's Expertise and a Sahelli Rai. He got another Expertise, which slowed me a lot, but I had lethal on board, and only a Cat on the other side with no cards in his hand. He topdeckded Saheeli Rai...

Lessons

The deck felt great! The only trouble was the hitting better topdecks than my opponents. I will work a bit on the sideboard.
