Will the new Avacyn be your commander? If so, I am more interested.

Yes. Once tapped out lets me add her as the commander, I will replace Anya with Avacyn.

So rules wise you can play red in a commander deck like this?

Yes, like how you can only use Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip in black because Withengar Unbound is black. Since Avacyn, the Purifier is red, it counts in her color identity.

Heh, I used the same reference in my new!Avacyn deck description (link: Judgment Day: Avacyn the Purifier EDH). You get a +1 just for the name :D

Thanks! I +1'd your deck as well. I like your idea of a Voltron Avacyn.

Even though we are playing her very differently, I like your approach as well of abusing board wipes when your creatures are indestructible :) the only suggestion I would make it to add more mana ramp, so you can get to 9 mana (5 for Avacyn, 4 for DoJ or WoG). Also, Blasphemous Act is wonderful and almost always costs just R ;)

Thank you for the advice! I've added your suggestion along with Weathered Wayfarer and a few more rocks.

If you use archangel avacyn as you commander, the deck has to be mono white just fyi

Actually, since her flip is red, red is a part of her color identity. Which makes her white and red.

A commander's identity depends on the mana symbols appeared on it's cmc and the decription part of the card. Since there is no red mana symbol appeared on that card, avacyn purifier remains the only red card you should see in this deck.

Hope the rule of identification could change due to the release of avacyn

markszncd: I'm sorry, but you are incorrect about Avacyn's color identity. As a commander, her identity is WR. From the Comprehensive Rules (903.4c), "The back face of a double-faced card is included when determining a cards color identity."

She is Boros, and red cards are entirely legal in the deck. Here is the full citation as well: http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Color_identity

Some cards to prevent Avacyn's damage to your creatures: Rune-Tail, Kitsune Ascendant, Mark of Asylum. If you're packing these, then go ahead and blow up the board with damage, add Anger of the Gods and Volcanic Fallout. Blasphemous Act was mentioned. Repercussion could be fun in here too.

Needs more lands.

For the purpose of dealing lots of damage to creatures, especially with Mark of Asylum and Repercussion on the field, I'd go with Blasphemous Act and Chain Reaction.

WertomThree says... #17

Thanks guys for the help. I've added Chain Reaction and Volcanic Fallout. Mark of Asylum is already in the deck, and I'll test Repercussion to see if it hurts me more than it hurts them.

Pdemi559: Avacyn's back side is red. Thus, card is boros.

Pdemi559: Glad to help :) I am also glad I didn't have to dig out the cRules citation because that document is a pain.
