After the last time I played this deck I wasn't thrilled with Stormbreath Dragon, yes he's a bomb. But he doesn't quite fit the deck and frankly he dies a lot. Originally I was thinking of replacing him with Haunted Plate Mail. Given that 1. it dodges sorcery based removal, 2. it's good against control, 3. it survives the removal of the creature it equips, and 4. it makes Ash Zealot and Fiendslayer Paladin beasts (gaining 6 life per turn with a first strike hard to remove creature will really help you stabilize when you are behind), which also provides another way Boros Charm can win (through double strike). Plus I always wanted to see Boros Reckoner in a suit. However, after thinking about it I think there may be better choices.
Another great combo not discussed above is Gorgon's Head with Boros Reckoner: once equiped you can flash in Izzet Staticaster, ping the reckoner and kill anything on the battlefield that staticater can't hit himself. Alternatively, use Chandra, Pyromaster +1 to hit yourself and your own Boros Reckoner, who in turn ping's and kills anything on the battlefield. The idea of pinging off of Boros Reckoner has made me rethink about Magma Jet over Lightning Strike. Originally my thought was: Lightning Strike synergies better with my 2/2 first strikers in being able to kill that 5 toughness blocker, is better for Chandra, Pyromaster ultimate, and gives me that last point of damage needed to kill my opponent. But, with Magma Jet, I can T4 equip Boros Reckoner with Gorgon's Head, tag him with Magma Jet to then redirect and kill anything on the board. I've decided to make that change and to increase the chances that I can pull it off.
Changes:
-4 Lightning Strike, +4 Magma Jet, +1 Izzet Staticaster, +1 Chandra, Pyromaster, -2 Haunted Plate Mail.
How this will affect the sideboard remains to be determined.
