Modern FNM, but was cheated —Jan. 3, 2015
I did some extra playtesting, felt good where I was but, well.... I went 2/2.
Match 1 -- 0/2
Affinity: I was at the advantage of going first, game 1 I ended up sifting though 16 or so cards removing his board with an Axe and Bolt, swinging in for only 6 with Narset and failing to reanimate anything, and I just had to deal with Steel Overseer and [Inkmoth Nexus]]. Game 2 I had to mulligan
to 5 which, I've won off of mulling to 4, so no big deal there, but each time, I just had nothing but Simian spirit guides, but I had a Spell Piece so I know I could deal with the chance of him having a turn 1 Grafdigger's Cage at no mulls, which he did, and I was banking on a mult-colored land or a Manamorphose. He did have the Cage, but I did not have any of the things to stop it, and get back in the game, and then he proceeded to swing out. Game was a bust, and draws were not on my side.
Match 2 -- 2/0
Gifts Ungiven (4-color varience):
Stand match for me, simple enough, I won both games, on turn 2. The second game I figured I would see Surgical Extraction but I went off turn 2 again ad he didn't have the extraction in hand, he did mull down to 5 for it however, but he did have it in the deck, and coming up in a couple of turns.
So after the first two games wher I was blown out, and then I blew someone else, I figured games would go a little longer now. Nope.
Match 3 -- 1/2
RUG Scapeshift: This match was atrocious! Judge's nightmare, my nightmare... just nothing good about this match. Game 1, Turn 1 I went off, sifting through about 20 or so cards, and failing to go off, all while exiling 2 Griselbrands which really really hurt, but I was able to play all of my Fury of the Hordes by the end of the game. I also went off turn 2 as well, again with Narset, failed more spots another Griselbrand gone and I had only about 12 cards left in the deck. THAT was my turn 2. 3 I passed, 4 passed. Then I lost to Scapeshift.
SHINANIGANS ::::: He table shuffled, I counted as he table shuffled, he was missing 2 cards in mainboard, he had gotten through 2 matches and a game with a 58 card deck, I casually made the notice, said calmly that I'm just gunna get a judge, did, and it was 'rectified' he got a verbal warning, was told to move 2 cards in from side to main and must play the rest of the FNM that way. I was a little peeved that I might have had a game stolen, and nothing could be done. Let alone whatever other games he stole.
Game 2. I snap kept a hand with Leyline of Sanctity I won turn 1, I had the Griselbrand, and found the Goryo's and that game ended. Game 3 was a repeat of game 1. With the exception of his deck now having 60 cards and Leyline of Sanctity in my opening hand again, except this time there were 2. I had the choice if I wanted to drop both, or just one. I decide to keep one so I had something to loot away. I PROBABLY should have dropped both of them down. Turn 3 failed my Goryo's on Narset again, but set up for the next turn. He Cryptic Commanded bouncing the Leyline and drawing, and the scapeshift for the win. It too hard to tell, if I was actually cheated or not, but the other people that this person beat, were 100% cheated out of games.
Match 4 -- 2/1
Fish: I don't find this match-up interesting at all. Game 1 was turn 2 win, Pact of Negation to stop a counter. Game 2 I ended up actually scooping, turn 4 because he just had enough on board to counter and swing. I do not mind losing game 2, but only as long as I won game 1. This give me time to stall, see what they boarded act like I have nothing to board against them, sometimes, but I still board game 2 to win, because if I can win... then I should always be trying to win. However, not going 1st lowers our chances of winning a game. Game 3 was just another turn 2 win, he mulled to 6, I would have played around but a Gitaxian Probe told me that could go for it, as there was not counter magic to deal with.
All said and done, the Scapeshift person went 2-1 and then split for top 2 and got $40 in credit along with all the top 4. So that really kind of pissed me off.
