This is a really neat gift. Sorry to hear about your brother's pups.
You might like these: Hyena Umbra , Jackal Familiar , Isamaru, Hound of Konda , Pack Mastiff , Rambunctious Mutt , Two-Headed Cerberus .
There's also some interesting synergy among Blood Hound , Lava Hounds , and Jackal Pup . Building around those would probably be a whole different deck though haha.

Can't you also focus on tap/untap abilities? also draw all you can and never discard. Angel's Trumpet seems fun, same with Avaricious Dragon, Blood Hound and Desolation. you can try to convince your opponents to use Obeka and you get to keep tokens made by cards like Flameshadow Conjuring
